In the thread that was deleted without reason Jenni pointed out that dogs cannot tell the difference between night and day but yet continue to savage lambs and sheep in the dark hours. In Ireland this is common where a docile pet turns into a monstrous killer after dark. Sometimes even their stupid owners are unaware of the nightly savaging escapades.

It’s the uncaring dog owners who refuse to acknowledge between right and wrong. These morons don’t want anybody reporting anything regarding dangerous animals in case something gets done about it. We had a case in Ireland recently where a young boy was savagely attacked by a dog that (by law) should have been muzzled but wasn’t. The dog’s owner couldn’t bring himself to donning a muzzle on the dog. The boy suffered appalling life changing and serious injuries, could not even speak for months and continues with psychological problems.

The positive and only sensible way forward is to report (i) Abuse towards animals and (ii) Dangerous or potentially dangerous situations caused by animals and/or their owners. Therefore, Dario’s information regarding reporting matters is excellent. Use the camera in your phone to record such dangerous conduct. In restaurants/bars ask for the Complaints Book and write in your fears and issues also. I’m just imagining a member of La Guardian Civil reading a complaint on the computer system and then thinking that some complainer is good on a keyboard, but hasn’t complained at first base.

The resolution is in making the authorities aware of the truth and not hiding it.

. . . and kudos to the moderators of this forum for allowing this thread to continue and let’s hope it does.

Spain *IS* changing - slowly.  SEPRONA are the branch of the Guardia Civil tasked with investigating and prosecuting contraventions of animal laws.  A whole raft of laws giving greater protections to animals were passed last year, and one in particular now makes the dumping of animals i...

...llegal.

The trick is catching people doing it - the hunters of course care nothing about the law and will continue to do what they do, SEPRONA will continue to prosecute - and they very much do.

The future of the country lies with the youth though and it’s pleasing to see attitudes are changing, with the youth being much more animal aware and sympathetic.  It won’t change overnight - but the tide is turning; even the days of bullfighting are numbered. Whilst it still occurs in Andalusia and a couple of other communities that grimly hang on to these aged cultural traditions, bullfighting has been outlawed in many parts of Spain.  The day will come for Andalucia as well when the pressure to outlaw it can no longer be ignored.

The other trick Dario is getting a complaint thru to Seprona, have you ever tried, I have on many occasions, they never answer their phone and they dont answer email unless it is written in Spanish, I proved this by sending an email in english which was ignored and then getting my Spanish neighbour to send the same email in Spain, which got answered, they didn't do anything about the complaint, just said they would look into it, which they never did and I had to get the local major involved. I wouldn't hold your breath about Spain changing towards animals, well not in mine or your life time anyway. They have a deep seating disrespect for anything on 4 legs.

1. The thrust of Dario’s post is that Spain is changing positivelytowards the mal  treatment of animals.

2, Soprono is not a translation service. If you posted a message on a similar platform in the Irish language in the UK, do you think you’d get a response?

3. Spain has to start somewhere and it has. Have you problems with this? Or do you want the service pulled like the previous doggy thread here?

As Matthew points out, and as I’ve stated many times, English is not one of Spain’s official languages.

If you sent a complaint to a police department in England in Spanish … what would the response be?

The best way as I said is via the AlertCops app which logs the contact and connects you directly to Guardia Civil.  A complaint requires evidence and as I said, photos and video are brilliant for that.

Guardia Civil are working hard to shake off the reputation that seems to be given them as lazy bully boys - they are anything but and I know the two Guardia Civil officers who live directly underneath me would be mortified to think they are seen as lazy and / or incompetent - or that they don’t take complaints seriously.

Spain is changing - and far quicker than you think.  Not sure of your age Jenni, but I will most definitely live to see the change.

It is sad that you find it necessary to be consistently negative about a country that gave you a home for so many years.  I just hope any prospective migrants reading your posts realise you are biased and take your negativity with a pinch of salt.

Further to posts by Dario and me, try to make your complaint more presentable and readable. Your last post here had one long sentence only and competed with James Joyce’s Ulysses for easy understanding. Split your writing into paragraphs and shove in a full stop occasionally. Even use point buttons where necessary.

Otherwise, you can come across as a demented moaner. I don’t believe you’re doting. Once again you can take or leave our advice; that’s your call. When you write something just think of the people who will be reading what you write. It’s all about image, ask any publican or restauranteur.

To answer your question,, if I sent a request to any government department in the UK in a foreign language, this includes police, they would immediately get it translated, in every doctors surgery or hospital they will get a translator for you at no cost to you if you ask, if you ring any pension line the first thing they say is 'if you want to speak to someone in english press 1, it then gives you the option of different languages.

I am not negative Dario I am a realist, I dont paint a rosey picture if its not there, Spain was always at best difficult to negotiate, since Bretix its become impossible. I dont want to live in a country where the tax man can remove money or place an embargo on my bank account with no notice and in most cases for no reason, I dont want to live in the country where woman are regarded as 2nd citizens, You say you hope people reading my post aren't put off. well likewise. you paint such a lovely life with no hassle that you give them a false picture and they get there and find its not all you say it is. they are better to be for warned, because for warned is for armed.  And I haven't even mentioned animal cruetly!!!

Thank you Matthew for that lesson in English, wasn't aware I was being judged on my grammer.  Please note full stop applied. The only demented moaner on this forum is you, I am sure I am not the only one that is sick to death of your obsession  with dogs and cats and their poo. Look another full stop. am I getting better? O my goodness I have even found the question mark. Grow up Matthew. and stop stirring things just because you have very little else in your life.

In answer to question 2, yes you would get a reply because they would translate it before replying, they would then try and reply in the language  of your choice. your other 2 question do not warrant a reply

I’ve never painted a rosy picture - only a realistic one.  I’ve said that nepotism is rife here, that English is not widely spoken and the country does have its own issues.

But woman as 2nd class citizens??? What tiny little patriarchal village were you living in? Because that is most certainly not the case in this area.

As for your assertion that you can write to government departments in the UK in any language and they will translate … I take it you’ve not actually *tried* that have you? you’re just going on hearsay.  Well, if that’s what you wish to believe …

Yes, Spain has issues, none that are insurmountable and certainly none that relegate woman to second class status - what utter drivel.

Spains history with animals has not been blessed with being a shining example, but as the older generation with those cultures and conservative ideas fades away, new ideas and cultures that are more planet-friendly are germinating and growing.

It’s a wonderful time to be in Spain, to experience this change.  I don’t suffer too many challenges here Jenni - but maybe that’s because I welcome and am grateful for the dawn of each and every day, choose for it to be a good day, don’t go around with a permanent scowl and don’t expect people to speak, or even understand, English.

Well that got back to the doggy debate . Now for the feral cats ? Just to add I will be strolling along the playa mid February for a month or so watching out for dog poos and irresponsible dog owners and if they are more than 11 stone I’m calling for Geordie and his shepherds . Full  Stop . And sorry a long sentence but I did leave school on my 15th birthday and never very good at the writing bit .😂
