Am I being ridiculous? We have just invested in a modern garden sofa, chair, table set that cost more than similar for inside (!), and I am now a bit concerned that it might be stolen. There have been a couple of break-ins on our small complex, but these have been when people have gone out for the day etc, and they only seem to have been interested in small valuable items that can obviously be quickly sold on.

Our property is on the first floor with a side terrace some distance from other properties. Although we are in a gated community, our place is at the end and it might just be possible to hook something over the top of the terrace railings from outside the complex, although husband thinks this is highly unlikely.

I would love to hear if others have been able to leave garden furniture without (or with) any problems please and any advice about the best approach.

Shazzy, You're in Spain not Basildon. When in Spain do what the Spanish and Irish do . . . . No self respecting Irish guy or Spaniard would be seen dead mollycoddlying the garden furniture. It was meant to be outside so leave it there. If it walks, it walks, take it on the chin. But, who is going to climb to the first floor and scale some railings for a garden seat?

Now, I know it will take some time for you to lap up what I'm saying. So, immediately pour a large gin (even if it's from Lidl in a Beefeater bottle) into an ice filled stemmed glass. Add some Nordic tonic (not Diá or any other shop sponsored tonic) and don't forget a slice of orange or lemon. Place full glass on your new garden table and seat yourself comfortably on your precious garden seat and enjoy the ice cold feeling of g+t descending through your oesophagus towards your stomach. After you've finished the 3rd g + t have some faith in the honesty of your neighbours.

And, if they shun you, you are welcome on our terrace for another decent glass of gin (and it's Gordons).

A helpful reality check reply thanks Matthew! Gin certainly subdues the default worry setting that always seems to find something, even when life is so sweet in our new holiday home. :)

Hi Shazzy, Thanks for not eating the livin' blazes out of me (and I reckon you're not a Brexiteer either, although I bet your husband is). I hope you enjoy your new holiday home and of course your new garden furniture. Here's raising a glass to your good humour!!!!!

Matt, husband was/is actually a staunch remainer and will happily talk to (bore) anyone about why...
