I have been told that the green A4 residencias that we have now need to be changed. Is this correct.

Around 15 years ago we, like all expats, had residencia cards and these were very useful until some idiot complained about having identity cards and the Spanish authorities required us to change to the green document. We were assured that the advantage of the new document was that it was valid for life and would not need renewing every 5 years as was the case with the card.

What is the validity, if any, of the green residencia document and do we need to do something?

Hi,

This is quite complicated as we recently discovered in obtaining Spanish Driving Licenses. Also complicated, I think, as we live in Murcia Province. However we had the A4s which we had minimized & then laminated. However on our documents it states 'Permanent Residents of Spain'. The final solicitor accepted my A4 & Sandra's minimised without any difficulty at all.

Also, in falling foul.of the GC I have tendered my minimized copy & not a problem. And they immediately check on their computers.

There must be a formal protocol but it seems different agents have differing perceptions.

We are sticking with our minimized originals which are as the ones now issued but these are unlaminated.

We have been here since 2002/3 & when we processed in Murcia were told the Residencias were for life.

Imagine legal reps and agents are rubbing their hands in glee.

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Although been here for a much shorter period of time, myself and my partner have been assured by various legal representatives of the Spanish legal system that once you have Residencia of any kind it is now considered permanent rather than temporary as in the past so no longer any need to renew.

Peterlee4 is correct I think. After 5 years your residency is permanent. I am not aware of any need to replace it. It’s those of us with less than 5 years residency that may have to replace our green cards with a full photo ID once the U.K. becomes a third country.

At a meeting in Mojacar hosted by the UK consulate we were advised that post Brexit good or bad (make your own mind up) the UK being classed as a third nation, all UK expats will be able to apply for legal right to remain in Spain via an ID card system that is being rolled out now, this is subject to applicants having Residencia prior to the UK exit from Europe....a right royal mess to be sure...

Hi Bob

Would appreciate any info regarding obtaining Spanish Driving licence in the Murcia region (Puerto Lumbreras or Lorca).  I'm going round in circles trying to get the wheels in motion.  We do intend employing someone to do the lion's share of the application but just trying to find somewhere for the required photos is proving a problem.

Thanks in advance

Lorna

Hi,

Couldn't agree more!!!! We went to the photograph shop on the main street thru Puerto Lumbreras and specified photos for Spanish Driving Licenses. When they arrived we queried the size as.they were Passport size. Reassured ++++ that they were correct-absolute cobblers. They should have been 36mm x 24mm. Gratefully we were able to cut them down.

We finally used Salvador.on Mojacar Playa. 92€pp.

Sandra tendered miniaturized Residencia, photo, UK Driving License, Passport.

I wad the same except A4 photocopy'of Residencia and as above.

We had 5 forms each to sign which Anna fills in.

Photocopying done by Anna.

It was all so easy and Anna was brilliant and perfect English.

Will send PM.

It doesn't matter where you.have Residencia. It's National. So ours are Murcia Province.but we processed in Andalucia.

Hope.that helps.

No problem with supplementary questions.

In.shopping around we found it just so stressful and anxiety provoking.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra
