Hi Julie

You question begets many more questions! But lets deal with your question first.

It depends how much you want to spend. Do you want to stay in a hotel? or rent an apartment or villa?

Booking.com will give you a good idea of hotels. There are a number of rental agents for villas and apartments of which Blue Sea villas would be a good start ( and no, I have no connection to them ).

http://blueseavillas.co.uk

I'm sure after you have visited you will have a thousand more question!

Hope this is a helpful start!

regards,

Hi Julie, Welcome to the forum. In three minutes time, you'll probably hate me, but you'll have to get to the back of the queue with those who hated me for quite some time.

You and your husband/partner are at a crossroads and probably dying to start the next chapter of your lives. Hold on, don't jump ship just yet. Unemployment in Spain probably never has been worse and perhaps you have more beneficial future opportunities in the UK, if that is where you live. To work in Spain whether it's in a restaurant, call centre, professional outlet you'll need to speak fluent Spanish (not near fluent Spanish). Adjusting to the Spanish way-of-life is easy, but you'll have to work at it.

Sell your home in the UK and you've burnt your boats; no room for a dignified retreat if you have one. You can rent long term in the off season (October to March/April) for around €700 per month inclusive of all utilities and internet (2 bedroom, centrally located, good apartment). If you rent out your UK property you'll probably find yourself well ahead per month in renting Spain -V- UK. My immediate advice to you would be to try and get employment in the UK. If you wish to go ahead with your next chapter then rent in the off season for about 5 weeks. During that five week period you may find that Spain is/is not for you. And if you wish to return to the UK, you're doing so on your own terms.

Best of Luck.

Hi Julie

Matthew has, very eloquently addressed a lot of the questions that I felt you would get to grips with once you have visited.

The only thing I am going to add to Matthew's words are that time is running out to move down here relatively easily.

The Brexit Withdrawal agreement ends on the 31st December 2020. It is relatively easy as a UK citizen to become resident in Spain until that date. After that date, from everything we know at the moment, UK will become a third tier country and application for Residency here will be just like any other country outside of the EU/EEA. The requirements will be much more stringent.

There are lots of threads on here that have a wealth of information for people thinking of "The Move". Jim's Guide"s in the top bar is a great reference tool.

Hope all goes well.

regards,
