Hi everyone

I am coming over to Mojacar on 8 Oct to look around as I am thinking of buying a property here plus have a relaxing holiday.  I have used airbnb and booked an apartment in the Playa Macenas Beach Resort.  I wasn't planning on hiring a car as I don't enjoy driving and prefer to walk/use local buses to get about.  Can anyone advise please if the resort is within a reasonable walking distance (say 30 minutes) of shops/restaurants/beach etc?   Also I am having trouble locating an airport shuttle stop that is close to the resort.   It's making me worry if the resort is a lot further out than I originally thought!

If I were to bite the bullet and hire a car, how hectic is the traffic around the airport/Mojacar and is there plenty of car parking about in Mojacar?

Many thanks in advance

Sarah

Hi Sarah, yes the Playa Macenas resort (I believe the golf course is now closed) is a bit out of the way in that the Exclusive Airport Shuttle at https://exclusiveairportshuttles.co.uk will get you to Mojacar but not down to the resort so you'd need a taxi to get you there I think. You are close to the beach but certainly several km away from the shops and restaurants of Mojacar Playa.

I think you would need a car (as indeed I will have when I am out for 3 weeks in October) but there isn't much traffic - the busiest time of the year is July/August when it's manic- and there is plenty of parking available at that time of year. It would take you about 50 minutes from Almeria Airport to Playa Macenas.

Hi again

Well OK & I see Rob has already contributed. Your Resort is 15km.from the centre of Mojacar according to Google maps. It's actually 1/2 way to Carboneras.

Visited once from Mojacar and it really seemed a long way.

Getting from Almeria Airport is no problem either by car or www.exclusiveairportshuttles.co.uk. If coming with them then it would be best to get off at Centro Commercial as there is a taxi rank.right there. If you have a hire car then no problem & Rob can advise on Companies. We live part time in Mojacar & have a vehicle.

There must be a form of transport from the resort as the buses from Mojacar-Carboneras pass that way. Maybe Alsa Bus?

If you e mail the staff at

[email protected] (tourist info in Town Hall  ) they may have better info on Public Transport. They are really helpful.

We are over Holliday Season when traffic in Mojacar is horrendous so parking no problem.

Hope some of this is useful.

Best Wishes

Bob and Sandra

Thanks so much for helpful information, really appreciated.  I will contact the tourist info to see what they say and have a good think about hiring a car.  Haven’t ruled out changing the Airbnb location either.  Thanks once again and I am sure I will be back on this forum with more questions

Cheers

If you are able to cancel your Airbnb booking I think it would be a good idea. Re- book somthing in Mojacar Playa - much more convenient!

This used to be a golf resort until they closed the GC, now it's a beach resort but I'd read various comments on such as trip advisor re the resort, irrespective of the distance you would need to travel...... good luck whatever you choice

Me again! :)  Thanks to all for your helpful advice which I have taken on board.  I decided to get a hire car but unfortunately as I can only drive automatics, am struggling to get a car.  I'm waiting for a rental company to come back to me but in the meantime I have booked at the Hotel Simon.   From your comments, I can see that staying at the airbnb without a car will be problematic.   On the plus side, I have an appointment to view a property not far from the Hotel Simon so I can get a good feel of the area.

Would anyone know please if the Almeria airport shuttle drops off anywhere near Hotel Simon?  I will get a taxi if I have to but am hoping to save some money.

Thanks once again :)

Sarah

Hi,

That sounds hopeful.

Just in case no response.

Hope it all works out & don't be in a rush to make a decision. So many properties on the market, bad time of year to sell & don't believe a word you are told.

If' buying cash & from a Brit consider a CHAPS TRANSFER for the 90%.
