Hello,

My Wife and I are hoping to move to Lubrin where we are buying a new home,

I am not sure whether to drive my UK registered Car to Spain with the intention of exchanging at a dealership

for a Spanish registered LHD Car, not sure how easy this would be or if there is even a market for UK registered RHD Cars,

My other option is to purchase a LHD in the UK and Spanish Register when we arrive.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are lucky and find someone wanting a RHD to go back to Blighty,I would go the LHD route.

Seconhand cars in Spain are expensive compared to the UK so it might be beneficial to buy a UK car and then  ITV it in Spain, the more 'common' the car the easier to ITV it you will need headlights at least but there are some very big breakers around the Almeria/Murcia area

There is a market for UK plated cars in Spain and you see them frequently advertised on the local Facebook forums at well above UK prices.

With the LHD car from UK.may I suggest you explore the cost of matriculation & the process itself.

Maybe contact The Garage.in Arboleas or Hispavan on the El Real Poligono,Antas.

You have my very best wishes. Not an excercise I would want.

FWR Eurocars in Alicante buy and sell UK plated cars so may be worth having a look at their website. Frank who runs is is a really nice guy, not something you would normally say about a car dealer lol. Wouldn't really recommend any local dealers but Gomez Ford in Huercal Overa are very good and they have an English guy, Harry, who speaks perfect Spanish as well.

Good luck,

Paul.

Hi. I btought my UK car over to Spain in 2015. After checking out the options, I dealt with Venus cars. 965368274 or 666298689. This guy advertises in Euro Weekly and deals in RHD and LHD vehicles, and deals with all the paperwork. Give him a call. He’s called Nigel.

Hi. We bought a LHD Soanish registered car in UK and drove it here this year. Had to get Spanish insurance as UK insurance companies wouldnt cover it. As with UK insurance you only get 90 days to use it in UK before it has to be in Spain. As soon as we arrived and villa was in our name our Spanish solicitor began the transfer of registration. It cost us €360 to get it done and had to have NIE and Padron (€2). Hope this helps.
