Hi, we are purchasing a property in Lubrin.  Can anyone help me to know what happens about household rubbish?  In England we recycle our rubbish a lot.  We separate paper and cardboard from glass, plastic, clean foil and juice and milk cartons.  What happens over there?  I realise that there are not dustbin per property and can handle that.  Can you let me know how frequently rubbish is collected too.

Thanks

Mary

HI there are a couple of recycle bins 1 down by the Square and 1 by La Tasca and whilst not sure when they are emptied they are never full so must be regularly.

Spain so far has not complied with EU recycling laws.

A few areas have coloured bins but the vast majority of urbanizations only have "black bins" usually emptied late at night every two days.

Larger household rubbish like old furniture, beds, mattresses, electric water heaters, whatever, come under new national laws instigated in 2017.

You are now allowed to leave these sort of items next to a black bin on the eve of the 6th and 20th, only.

The refuse collectors on these nights will assess the load and order a truck, usually for the next day although in reality it may take a few days.

The new laws were published fully in Spanish and English newspapers.

However, most people do still not know of these laws. For this reason the government added their was ' a period of adjustment' expected.

A word of warning, dumping stuff outside these parameters of the 6th and the 20th evening will incur heavy fines if you are reported or spotted by any of the authorities  council workers, Policia, Guardia etc. That national law stays and has always been active in Spain.

Hi Julie70,

On the street there are big containers for general rubbish, for packaging (plastic bottles, cartons, cans etc.), for glass and for cardboard.

The big containers are emptied every day or two. The rest varies.

Not every area uses the same system for the containers, for example, in Marbella they are underground.

They all rycycle though.

That seems not to be the case here in Roquetas. Such items are left by the bins any day here in the Urbanisation. We do have green street bins for general rubbish, bottle bank bins and plastico bins and paper bins. The general bins seem to be emptied at 2am. Maybe because it’s cooler then?

In our village, the green bins for general rubbish are emptied every day except Sundays. There are yellow bins for plastics, cartons, etc, green glass bins, blue for newspapers and magazines and big items are collected twice a month around the 7th/20th. There are also red bins for old clothes and shoes and there is another for used oil which has to be in containers but can't remember what colour that one is. Rubbish should not be put in the general bins before 7pm and you can get fined if you are spotted.

Hope this helps,

Bestwishes,

Paul.

Thanks to all who replied to my query about rubbish collection.  We have now stayed in our property and find we have a general rubbish container on the road and we take plastics, paper etc into Lubrin for recycling on market day.

Self explanatory, people ignore the rules human nature.
