I heard there are a few in Lubrin. I am thinking about the possibility of moving to this village. Could you give me a few of your impressions about the village, services, social activitites, enterteinment, people and so... If not Lubrin any other recommended affordable places?

Thank you,

Kind regards,

Angel

Hi

We were in Lubrin in February house hunting. We’ll be moving there as soon as our house sells.

We have a house lined up. We were made to feel very welcome by everyone. The village has a nice feel to it.

Hasta Luego

Graham & Yvonne

Dear Graham and Ivonne,

I am looking forward having more news about your move. I have some relatives there but I want to be sure that I can do other things in Lubrin... Actually besides Covid19 restrictions have other family issues that need my attention...

Let us be in touch,

Thanks,

Angel

Hi there,

I am just 63, retired and living actually in the sorroundings of Barcelona, in a 130K inhabitants city, nearby the sea. I was wondering what kind of activities you can do in Lubrin, my last visit to the village was around 10 years ago... though still in touch with some "distant" relatives. Since returning from the States, with complicated family issues I would like to learn a little more about the pros and cons of living in Lubrin. In the States we did not have opportunities to make friends and lived in a kind of isolation, in a City where you constantly need a car to do the most basic things.

Are there any "meetups" or social activities in Lubrin or sorroundings? What was like to move there from the UK and changed your lifestye?.

Cheers,

Angel

Angel,  Lubrin is of course a small village. There are around 1500 people living in the municipality but they are spread all over the villages leaving possibly 500 in the village itself. Life here runs at a sedate pace though the town hall are very proactive and encourage tourism based mainly on the food produced here. The olive oil and honey are both of a very high standard. The average age of inhabitants is on the old side but we do have a good number of younger people and young families.

Avtivities are for many based around walking and cycling. However there are other things like a book club, various activites in the gym and the town hall have in more ordinary times an excellent excursion programme . The village itself has sufficient shops to survive for those without transport and the weekly market is excellent. There are currently 3 bars operating selling food and another being currently refurbished . In addition we have a bar at the village pool . In that area you will also find a tennis court, padel court and 5 a side pitches. All are available free of charge to residents.

There are a reasonable number of expats from various parts of Europe but the village remains very Spanish.

Obviously we are around 40 minutes from the beaches and an hour from the Capital. We go to the latter for bigger shops, the theatre etc . Having said that Lubrin does have a theater which again the town hall use to provide free shows a few times a year  for the pueblo. Usually professional touring shows from the province.

There is a health center in the village and a truly excellent farmacia (open 24 hours for villagers if need be). There is a bus service to Almeria 1 or 2 times a day but no other public transport.

We love living here and find the locals very friendly. I play golf at the coast and my wife does pilates/yoga etc in Bedar. It certainly is not for everyone but it certainly suits us.

Yes . It takes about an hour by car. We do the journey a lot and it is a very pleasant drive. There is also a bus service once a day each way.
