May I suggest you rent in the first instance and ensure you are mobile as public transport is really poor, if it exists at all.

You need to read up on NIE, RESIDENCIA, BUYING A CAR IN SPAIN, RECIPROCAL.HEALTHCARE, OBTAIN APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.FROM DWP.

Well, that's a start.

Me and hubby are moving to Los Higuerales in October. Albox  and Arboleas are about a 10 minute drive away.

The area is beautiful but quite rural and we have no local shops or bars within walking distance but as we both drive it's not a problem. We found the cost of a 3 bed 2 bath villa with pool very reasonable but the closer to a town or the cost increases the cost.

Lots of expats in the area and lots of opportunities to get involved in local groups, charity work etc.  We were only out for a week and chatted to loads of people so don't think making friends will be a problem!!  We are both under retirement age but I have mobility issues and hope the climate, the way of life and daily swimming will improve things for me!!

If you are unsure try renting first?  We just took the plunge and hopefully won't look back.  We are under the impression property prices are on the increase so didn't want to leave it too late.

Friends!!!!!! Think you need to be cautious. There are those out here who parasitise on the Brit population and especially the.newbie OAPs. We have one set of real friends here and that after 15years. Never met so many conmen and out and out crooks since moving to Spain. Unfortunately 90% of these have been Brits trading on people's trust, lack of Spanish and what to do when cheated.

Thank you so much for youre comments and advice greatly received, it seems that some people at home think it is quite funny or stupid that we want to move abroad, but it is our dream so we wont let anyone take that away, it hasn't been easy these last few years looking after mom and dad, and now they aren't here anymore we feel it is our time, and our mistakes if they awry, but, hopefully we can make some new friends so thanks again.

My beloved wife, Sandra, had a dream.and that was to move to Spain. Her ex played her along for years but when he finally confessed he had no intention of.leaving UK, Sandra followed her dream & we met out here.

People thought she would return but she held firm to her dream. We have been.together since 2003.
