We own an apartment just outside Los Gallardos and are here for 5 months of the year. As non residents can we register at the doctor's consultario in the village in case we need medical assistance? And if so, how do we do it and what documents would we need?

How can you be here for 5 months if you are not residents? Do you mean you do 90 days, leave then come back 3 months later for another 60 odd days?

Just wondering because for stays of longer than 90 days you require Residencia a d with Guardia Civil etc patrolling stage the moment, there’s a high likelihood of being “found”

For non-residents, your EHIC card will give you emergency treatment but really you’d need travel insurance or similar.

You cannot register with the local doctor unless you first have Residencia and then qualify in some way for Spanish Health system, either by having been in the country longer than 12 months and entry onto Convenio Especial or by provision of S1 form from DWP (which requires a declaration you are moving abroad permanently) or by payment of Autónomo; however as I said, all these require you have Residencia

No. Afraid you can’t register with a local Spanish doctor because you are not residents, essentially you are tourists/visitors. As you are resident in the U.K. (there for 7 months in every year) you can use your EHIC card to obtain urgent medical treatment from any doctor or clinic in Spain 🇪🇸  Without that you require travel health insurance or private cover of some form.

From January when the Brexit Transition period ends you will only be able to stay here for 90 days in every 180 days, on a rolling basis.

If you are non-resident you will have to use your European Health Card ( which I think is still in place). This is for emergencies only.

We are normally here for 6 weeks at a time. We have private insurance and our E111 cards but as I understand it, if you need to visit a doctor and produce the E111 card, you are asked if you are registered with the local practice and if not there are problems in receiving attention. This could well be the wrong information and I was seeking to verify the facts of the matter.

Understood - the information you have received is very wide of the mark.  As non-residents you cannot register.  Your EHIC card gives you access to emergency treatment only.

It has always been 90 days within 180......just they were a little lax about it...
