If you are on State Health system, probably Huércal-Overa as that is the main hospital for the area
it could depend on what your medical needs are of course

We have just purchased in Los Gallardos and move permanently next summer. Could it please be explained about registering with the doctor and dentist, appointments etc. Also, if A& E was required , where would that be
Many thanks

That will depend on whether you are coming over with an S1 form as retired, which puts you into the Spanish health system, or whether you are taking health insurance.
If you are taking health insurance, you will be obliged to attend at a private Doctor, not your local Centro de Salud so no registration is necessary. Likewise for dentist. Find one you like and go to them, there is no registration with dentists here.
Any emergency treatment will be your closest hospital, but then transferred to a private hospital once stabilized. Private hospitals by and large don’t operate A&E facilities so A&E will almost always be at nearest State hospital. (I’m trying to recall if the private hospital in Almeria has A&E but cannot remember)

Thank you Dario. We are moving permanently when I reach state retirement so will be on S1 and my wife who is younger will piggyback onto my S1. Do we register with the local doctor in Los Gallardos?.

You’ll register with your local Centro de Salud and will also need to register with TGSS (Social Security) in order to get your SS Number for Salud Andalucia - you’ll register your S1 form first with (I believe) TGSS, then your wife will register as a dependent. Once you have those Social Security numbers, you’ll go to your nearest Centro de Salud and register with them to receive your green Salud Andalucia cards which hold your information and which you’ll need for example to present at a chemist when filling a prescription.

Do everything Dario has suggested and you won't go far wrong. We are on Huerta Nueva, and although many use the village health centre we go to Alfaix a couple of miles out, you have the choice, easier to see doctors we find. But your choice! If you want any info about local stuff/ trades people then please private message us.
