Buenas Tardes.

If you also view material on the Albox formus, you may have already come across my wife and I. If not, we are Lee & Carla and we are about to make the big plunge and spend our retirement here in Spain.

You'll note I said "here" because we are currently based in Vera Playa for the week as we get the big move under way. The orginal intention was to buy a house somewhere in the  Almanzora Valley. While it's true that we saw some oustandingly fabulous properties for our budget, they all had one major flaw. They had been built in areas so isolated, that some mountain goats might have hesitated to visit the area. Its a shame because the properties were beatiful, but, the true meaning of location, location, location hit us like a hammer.

Are we put off? Dont be daft!

Back to the drawing board and we soon found the lovely village (or should that be town) of Los Gallardos. This definitely ticks all the boxes for both myself and my better half. We had a good look around the Huerta Nueva development, and we're very impressed with what we saw, so much so, that we are viewing a house tomorrow.

We would very much welcome any hints, tips, advice or comments that anyone liviing in the area can offer. Good or bad, we dont care. All information is good information.

Look forward to hearing from you. Lee

Hi Lee, welcome to Spain.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about Los Gallardos, so my info is just a general one.

If at all possible integrate with your Spanish neighbours asap. Expats seem to forget we need to learn a new culture. You will get more out of your life here, I promise you.

If you need work done, don't always stick with Brit workers, the Spanish are hard working and won't rip you off.

Use your time to explore this wonderful country, Andulucia has some amazing places well worth visiting.

I can't think of anything else at the moment, old age isn't funny.

The very best of luck, health and happiness in your new life.

Jack

Hi Jack. Many thanks for the tips and the good wishes.

I'm proud to say that I have been learning Spanish for four months now and am getting on with it quite well. Plenty of gaffs, but when a language is spoken, rather than written, you've still got a good chance of being understood. I also think that confidence is a huge factor. I'm not too bothered about making a mug of myself, as my missus will confirm. 😁

Thanks again mate. Nice to hear from you. Lee
