An update to this is that we have just been told one of the boxes is in Burgos! It is the one that was in Almeria a few days ago waiting for us to pay up! So it looks like our inquiry with Hermes about the cost for returning them to the UK has resulted in it being returned, without any more discu...

...ssion.  Hermes say thay are not responsible once they have handed the items over to DPD....AAAARRRRGGGG!  No one there to receive it at the address we sent it from so goodness knows what happens next!  We were asked to write down what was in the boxes....which we did....lots of my dance outfits as I was hoping to join a group out here after Covid......They are not worth a lot....except to me! There are quite a few cook books and some other gifts.....so annoying all of this. In future if we want to bring anything back then I will buy an old suitcase from a charity shop when in UK....and bring stuff back here myself , it will end up cheaper on a plane!

All the courier companies charging spanish duties and taxes . One of the burdens when sending items from a non EU country ( UK ) to EU country ( Spain ) . Looks like hold luggage only option , but how long before airlines increase their charges when they see increased demand  . Bet Michael O,Leary already got his calculator out .

Today we paid the 130 euros for the 2 boxes.....no idea where the other 2 are as no tracing is working and the three companies who have so far had the parcels in their 'care' LOL don't know where they are either! However I found this on another site....it is fairly lengthy put might help some trying to sort this mess out!

I think this is a good summary of costs incurring by buying non-EU products. Food and animal products are being handled differently"All this applies to gifts as well. Sorry, it's a bit long, but hope it helps to clarify purchase, including online purchases, made from any countries outside the European Union for delivery to Spain import into the EU, they must pass through Spanish customs and the buyer must pay all applicable IVA, customs duties, and carrier fees for import form filling.

Since 1.1.21, this applies to goods coming from the UK.

But there are some exceptions for the moment:

From January 2021 until the end of June 2021, if the value of imported goods is less than €22 they will be exempt from IVA.

No import duties are payable on goods from countries outside the European Union whose value is less than €150.

Products coming from the UK, even if they exceed €150, will initially not (until 1st July 2021) be subject to import tariffs, although they will be subject to customs formalities.

So, at the moment, goods under €22 are not subject to customs formalities, but above that amount, they are already subject to IVA and if they exceed €150 possible import tariffs have to be added.

For online purchases, the transport agency (Correos, FEDEX, DHL, UPS, etc.) is in charge of obtaining Customs clearance.

They charge for this service. Each transport company has its own rates, which also depend on the type of goods they are importing on your behalf.

For example, this is is what Correos currently charges:

Processing of a Simplified SAD "Single Administrative Document" (for import of goods value of fewer than €150 €19.03.

Processing a normal SAD (goods over €150, or subject to special taxes (eg alcohol, tobacco, etc) or extra security controls (pharmaceutical products, etc.)€24.62.

Fee for the presentation of the forms to Customs €5.88.

So from January 2021 until July 2021, for any product, you buy from a UK website you will have to add the following import costs.....

Whilst until 1st July 2021 you do not yet have to pay customs duties, you do now have to pay the carriers' fees for Spanish customs clearance and also IVA depending on the product, which will be either the general rate (21%), reduced rate (10%) or super-reduced rate (4%).

Then from July 2021 onwards the current temporary "VAT exemption" for UK products worth less than €22 disappears.

So from July onwards the buyer of any goods coming from the UK (or any other country outside the European Union), whatever the amount, will have to pay IVA (VAT) at the appropriate rate for each item, as well as any applicable import tariffs depending on what the items may be.

From July onwards for goods of less than €150 value, customs formalities will be simplified, as it will be the seller located abroad that will have to collect the VAT and then pay it to the tax authorities in the country of destination.

For the purchase of products with a value of more than €150, the import procedure will be the same as now, so VAT and the corresponding duties will have to be paid by the buyer when the product arrives at customs, which will mean that fees will still have to be paid to the transport carrier for the customs formalities.

Have put this on another page....but want to warn people....DON'T use Hermes....

Update......sent the 130 euros to receive 2 boxes....they said they still can't find the other 2....However I can tell them where the one with my mothers old Christmas decorations is, which I want to keep for memories....It's back at my daughters in the UK....I kid you not, it arrived there today....left under the trailer by Hermes..... I am so worn out with this!
