Has anyone else had a surprise with parcels from the UK? We went to the UK for Christmas.....yes I keep asking myself why!....However there were some legal things to sort out, also there were a few personal things there....along with a few Christmas pressies....that we decided to send out to ourselves....SO, we had our PCR test and came back on the last flight from Bournemouth to Almeria having had our items collected the day before. (4 boxes with a total cost to post of £90)....after 16 days and not being able to get on to the Hermes site we sat while the computer page counted us down from 47 so we could speak (type) to someone at Hermes.....after getting down to the teens it cut us off! Never ones to give in   (Failure can not live in the face of persistence, my husband always says)...we tried again and finally got to someone who told us the items were still in the UK because of A) Brexit... B) Bar code trouble.... C) Snow! (We were waiting for 'leaves on the line!)   3 days later we had 2 messages in Spanish asking for a total of 130 euros for 2 of the parcels to be delivered as they were now in Spain....(import duty and tax) ..Once again we were on a count down to Hermes....only 22 in queue this time! It is we were told by Hermes 'at the discretion of the Spanish transport company as to how much they value the items being sent'! Has anyone else had this? We are looking at having the boxes returned as undelivered....but they have not worked out the cost of that yet!!!! Also will we have to pay tax going the other way????? What a bloody nightmare!

it was always going to be a way for the various postal systems to make money once UK left the EU all countries do not like parcels from outside coming in and will always make sure they charge as much as they can to deliver them to you.  this means it is not worth trying to buy outside of the country you live in.

'I' did not buy from outside this Country! They are mostly personal things which I have had for years, and a few small gifts from young grandchildren.....I knew there would be some problems....'I' was just politely asking if anyone else had experienced this particular problem!

Have you been told how much the taxes will be.....and more to the point were you told about these extra payments before you posted. We were not aware of these charges as we were not told....Might be somewhere way down in very very very small print!

I think I read somewhere, that there’s a form (there always is) you fill in and declare if they are personal and/or gifts. Check in the Citizens Advice, you might be able to get it sorted. Good luck

I think whatever you declare that the parcel contains is subject to IVA (Vat) and the Spanish rates are not the same as in Britain.  Clothes for example, have a much higher rate and children's clothes don't have a reduced rate as they do in the UK.  There ought to be a table of the different rates online somewhere.  There is a list of what you can't send which is quite extensive.

I received a parcel from the UK sent on the 8th December and it was sent by tracked post.  It was supposed to arrived within 3 days and arrived a whole month later!!  Luckily, because of being posted earlier there was nothing to pay which was fortunate as there were knifes and forks inside which might have been confiscated if posted after the 31st December.

An update to this is that we have just been told one of the boxes is in Burgos! It is the one that was in Almeria a few days ago waiting for us to pay up! So it looks like our inquiry with Hermes about the cost for returning them to the UK has resulted in it being returned, without any more discussion.  Hermes say thay are not responsible once they have handed the items over to DPD....AAAARRRRGGGG!  No one there to receive it at the address we sent it from so goodness knows what happens next!  We were asked to write down what was in the boxes....which we did....lots of my dance outfits as I was hoping to join a group out here after Covid......They are not worth a lot....except to me! There are quite a few cook books and some other gifts.....so annoying all of this. In future if we want to bring anything back then I will buy an old suitcase from a charity shop when in UK....and bring stuff back here myself , it will end up cheaper on a plane!

Yes, you're, right!  An extra suitcase on Jet 2 less than 40 euros extra and they allow up to 22 kilos per case.
