Hi I wonder if anyone has any information on the availability of treatments for both Macular Degenration & Gloucoma we are hoping to retire to the area in a few years & will probably be bringing my 85yr old Dad with us but he has a few sight problems & attends hospital every month so we need to know how he would continue with this treatment & is it very expensive.

Hi,

All I know is that there is an Ophthalmic Department at Huercal Overa Hospital which our friends.in Arboleas attend and a Private Facility in Vera which gets some hugely positive feedback.

Your Father, under the current Reciprocal Healthcare system, would transfer to the Spanish Healthcare system once he had his Residencia, sign on with local GP & be referred. Who knows with Brexit?????

However, as stated there is a Private Option. Not sure if English is spoken there.

Make a point of approaching the secretary to the Consultant Ophthalmologist/ Ophthalmic Surgeon for copies of all letters pertinent to your Father's diagnosis & management.

I can contact my friends and obtain details of the Private facility if it would help?

Best Wishes,

Dr. Bob and Sandra ( Retired)

Thank you for the information it was very helpful it is good to know the treatment is available let's hope it doesn't change with Brexit. I will have too investigate his options before we move over & if in 2 years time he will come with us.

Hola,

Fingers crossed.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

PS Sandra's Godmother, now in a Residential Home with dementia, went blind after a series of intra-ocular injections for Macular Degeneration. Extremely upsetting for the entire family.

Our thoughts are with you.
