A very warm welcome and hello from Brian and I.

Brian and I are from Wales in the UK, in our early (he in mid) 60's and having worked all our lives and having family we would like to embrace a new life and way of life in Spain.

In respect to moving to Spain, we are looking for a well maintained villa or bungalow (with or without a private pool but with option to have one) in a private residential area (no communal residency) with adequate outdoor space for our small pet dogs (our furry kids!!).

We are looking to retire to Spain and as friendly people ourselves, making new friends, share activities and are pleased to be a part of this friendly forum.

We are looking to be inland and open to various areas in Almeria, such as La Alfoquia, Albox, Zurgena, Huércal-Overa, Arboleas, Mojacar, Turre, Vera Playa, Los Galladros etc., and would like to be amongst a good community of Ex-Pats that we can meet as well as other nationalities and be close to amenities.

We would love to hear from anyone.

Thank you.

Best wishes

Breianne

Hi Kev and Julie,

Lovely to hear from you both, its pretty welcoming, thank you.

Brian and I are taking time to look for the right property and you never know, it may even be Vera Playa.

As newbies to the forum so to speak, you are the very first to be in touch so havent any idea if we get to hear from anyone else soon.

What part of Wales are you from and how was your own move from the UK?  Brian and I have put in a topic for property on the forum and asked a few questions and queries.  We are not clued up on moving from the UK to Spain plus we are taking into account that Brexit is not yet resolved.

Many thanks

Best wishes

Hi we have just bought a house in Serón, further inland but still within easy reach of Albox and Baza. We are planning to move out there around New Year. I’m in my forties and other half is in his fifties. We are hoping for a slower pace of life in the sun (and snow!). Cathy from Almeria Property Finder was fantastic, she showed us around both the towns and villages pointing out places of interest Doctors, shops etc as well as the houses. Without this I don’t think we would have taken the plunge as it can be daunting. Sadly the house we ended up buying was not on their books but I thoroughly recommend this estate agency. The online community on here and various Facebook pages have been very helpful. We can’t wait to make the permanent move. Kerry

Hi Kerry,

Lovely to hear from you.

Thank you for your contact and reply. The information in respect of Cathy is most appreciated.  Brian and I are keeping an open mind in regard of private residential areas in Almeria and taking out time to enable getting the right property.  Cath sounds as if she is right for what we have in mind.

I can imagine how daunting getting property in the right place, area and with amenities is. I hope you dont mind my asking but what made you select the area you are moving to please?

I can also imagine how excited you both must be and feeling for your forthcoming move.  Brian and I are keeping level heads and not letting our hearts run away with lack of common sense as we are relocating and the property and area and getting to meet and know others, even such as yourselves is our aim.

Have a lovely day and all the very best

Best wishes

Hi Kev,

Lovely to hear from you and thank you for all the information (and good advice!).  I will certainly bear all you say in mind.  Those such as yourself who are kind enough to get in touch are a great source of helping with what we need to be aware of.

We are not in a great hurry and are more than fine in taking our time to choose area, property etc and not try to run before we can walk so to speak. With the Almeria area in mind at least we have a chosen region.

Have a good evening.

Best wishes

Hi,

You might want to consider renting somewhere first if you are in no hurry. This will give you a good flavour of the areas and life in Spain and the pros and cons. We are in La Alfoquia..perfect for us. Hope it all goes well for you!

Hi Vic and Jackie,

A very good afternoon to you both.

Thank you for your contact and reply.  Brian and I are pleased to hear from you and appreciate your reply.

We have certainly thought of renting but for the fact that the sale of our present home will be used to purchase a property, i.e. a villa in Almeria.  Once our property is sold (and we will have our passports, NIE and moving arrangements in place (drive or and fly) we have approximately 8 - 12 weeks to find a property before completion here in the UK.

As we both work, Brian being self-employed is usually only home on weekends.  We are presently discussing that it may be best in arranging viewings for suitable properties with Spanish estate agents and using a weekend (to fly over and arrange weekend viewings in Spain) over the course of several months or................ taking a week or two off and use the week or two to look at areas, and discuss and view properties with estate agents.

If you dont mind my asking, how did you do your move for relocation?  What would be best in the way of selling and relocating as the property we would be relocating to is not a second home or holiday home.

Thank you once again for being in touch.

Best wishes

Hi Breianne,

We took a long time to get to where we are. We still have our house in the UK which is rented and means we can rent here. We moved into furnished rental properties but now have pretty much all our own furniture here, as we were ready to pass on our furniture etc.to family. The stuff we wanted to keep, we had brought over and some is in store in the UK.  We are both retired so work is not a problem. If you are thinking of using a Spanish Agency, the one we rent from also build and sell but you might have a problem with weekends. I can pass on the details if you would like. We think you might be better to take a couple of weeks here looking around rather than back and forth. Also in the village here is an office called C.A.T.S who are brilliant for any help, advice, info. etc. What they don't know or can't do is not worth doing or knowing! If we can be of any more help let us know...

Cheers!

Vic and Jackie.

Hi Vic and Jackie,

Good to hear from you and thank you for replying so promptly.

Brian and I also discussed rental of a villa in Spain and like yourselves, renting our present home out here in the UK.

We have some mortgage to still pay off. If we rented, this would cover the mortgage for the remaining period outstanding of around 2 years.

The rental side of things appealed to us very much so but again (and yes...we would have to look into and ask suitable estate agent companies or rental companies) because we have some small pet dogs and rental could or would be harder to get.  We would also be looking for long term furnished rental of 2 years (or more if we decide to hold onto our UK home and continue to rent).

As you rent, I would very much value your opinion and findings on renting.  Would the cost of rental for e.g. cover the council tax and rates and or water.  Would we be secure in the rental, i.e. renting without concern of the owner(s) wanting the property back before the rental contract is up?  In fact any relevant information would be appreciated.

Many thanks once again.

Best wishes
