Hi All,

We are moving out to Huércal-Overa area in January 2022 and we are looking for some advice re: removal companies that you may have used or would recommend?

We are considering sending a lot of the stuff we need but don't use frequently and can manage without immediately (Christmas, tools, garden furniture etc) with a removal company and driving with some of the more basic, important things ourselves just in case there are delays etc. Has anyone used Britannia Movers?

Has anyone made the journey via France and tunnel to the Huércal-Overa area? Do you have idea on how long this took in reality? Where did you stay? (Really can't manage the boat as I get terribly sea sick lol)

Any advice on companies to use (or avoid) and self drive much appreciated.

Thanks

Ste

Hi, we used Mick at Indalo Transport. We took care with the wrapping of our possessions, and the larger stuff Mick came and wrapped them personally. We didn’t have any breakages at all. I think you will find that Brexit has limited the choice of moving companies, and probably pushed up prices as a result. In terms of driving over here, we set off from Hampshire, did the tunnel, and stopped in Poitiers in France, and a lovely hotel in Marcilla, Spain, called Villa Marcilla, which we would thoroughly recommend. We have also done the drive in two days, which was brutal, and we stayed overnight in Irun in the Basque Country. We did this to ensure we were in Spain so that our pre-72hr COVID test was still valid. Be warned, fuel is eye-wateringly expensive at the French service stations. I hope this helps!

Hi, we moved to Spain 4 years ago and used a company called Union Jack. They were brilliant. They wrapped and packaged up delicicate things ie pictures, mirrors, there were no breakages. We flew over here and stayed at Tikar Hotel in Garraucha for a few nights and the moved into a furnished  rental apartment owned by Sean at said hotel, until we found our permanent home (64 properties)3 months later. Good luck with you move and enjoy finding your new home.

Thanks for the info and recommendations. We were worried about the PCRtest running out too so good to know you were able to make it across the border before it expired. I've not done the drive before but is there border control from france-spain when driving? Thanks for the heads up about the fuel!

The removal company stored them for us here in Spain until we were ready to move into our new home, 3 months in all. Everything was perfect when it arrived, no breakages or damage to any thing, came and collected all their boxes as well when we had emptied them.

Hi, border control appears to be a bit hit and miss. We didn’t spot any formal checkpoints either going in or coming out, but the Guardia Civil did have roadblocks in the town.
