Hi everyone

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago which was successfully treated, unfortunately she has found another lump.

We went to the doctor in Santa Maria who informed us that there were no appointments available at HO hospital in August and recommended that we go to the hospital in person to see if we could have more success.....we didn't have more success as they informed us there were no appointments available.

We then approached Almeria Hospital as they were the ones who canceled the follow up appointment in April 2020 sighting Covid 19 as the reason for cancellation.

So far after numerous phone calls most of which go unanswered we have not been able to move forward.

People have told us " Oh! you won't get an appointment in August, there all on holiday"...... really!

I wonder if expats know that if you want to find out if you have cancer and seek a diagnosis you better not have in August as all the medics are on holiday!!

We did eventually get through to a doctor in Almeria Hospital who said they would get back to us....but never did!!! hence this post.

We are desperate to find a way for my wife to have a mammogram and have the lump removed.

We have just lost a close friend in Spain for exactly the reasons stated above. She could not get an appointment for her cancer treatment and by the time she did it was to late the cancer had spread, she died 6 weeks ago.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Hi

Did you try Cuevas de Almanzora?

They have a clinic there that does not only mammograms but also will take an ultra sound which will be more informative.

If you pm me privately, I will try and find the link for it.

This is absolutely awful, I am so sorry you are going thru this. But it doesn't surprise me. I can only think that you go private there is a very good doctor in Albox speaks perfect english, email cmdocthosalud@gmail. com.   Good luck

Just had another thought, have you gone to the hospital and asked for an appointment,? perhaps try going to A&E walk in as an emergency. Surely they cant refuse to see you.

Hi

Sorry I just realised the clinic is in Huercal Overa. It called Radiologicia Levante Dina. It's a private clinic.

Hope this helps. You will need a translated as the doctor only speaks Spanish. The nurse on reception has some English I think.

So sorry to hear that you are having such a terrible experience. I know from personal experience it can be difficult to initially get into the appointment system of Spanish healthcare.

I don't know if you have had any contact with MACS? See their website and Facebook page for full details.

They have provided much help and support to us with all aspects of cancer including giving advice and assistance in getting us into the healthcare system.

They have an excellent network of recommended translators they can put you in touch with if needed. The translators have many contacts in the hospitals and private hospitals and really do all they can to help you .We managed to get an oncologist appointment at a private hospital in Almeria called Centro Oncologico L. Garcia Bienzobas with their help.

Hope this helps. Wishing you all the best with arranging your appointment and your onward fight against cancer.
