Where is the local traffic office (DGT) in Huercal Overa

I believe the law now is you may travel on UK registered car for 6 months but check out this website

I would strongly advise you sell your car before you come, but be aware second hand car prices here are a lot steeper here than back in the UK and mileage/Km on the clock is not reflected on price.

Off topic but have to agree 100% with Ossy who has been through the entire matriculation thing. You may be looking at 2000€ or more & considerable frustration.

We.brought over our Land Rover Discovery but then took it back to UK and bought Spanish.

There's a place called The Garage outside Arboleas and if you give them an e mail with model etc, they can give you an estimate, (& it will be just an estimate). Make sure they quote for new headlights, new tyres, removal of towbar, etc.

Vehicles out here also retain their value and the climate is a positive although the standard of driving isn't!!!!!

It used to be ln the bottom road almost opposite the Belzunces motorcycle/ bike shop but that was some years ago as we now pay Road Tax by DD. Strangely I thought.you needed to report whatever to The Guardia Civil which is on Google Search. Little chance either office will have English speakers.

We, partner and I came over, drove her RHD Honda hybrid last march 2017 and still driving it as we speak.

Cant help with the DGT office but the people over at CAT Services might help.

I can agree about s/h car prices especially at car dealers being high when you compare like for like with your vehicle in the UK but dont understand why you were told to register it straight away with the DGT.

I'll run with the 6 mth period before getting it matriculated but even if you swap your car for a lhd Spanish reg you'll still have to get it matriculated, the Spanish version of the UK MOT.

If whatever vehicle you end up with is less than 10 years old the ITV will be valid for 2 years, if older than 10 yrs, the ITV is valid for one year.

Both Policia local and Guardia civil are linked to the DVLA so if you think you can come to Spain and kinda drive under the radar you'll eventually got caught.  The radar speed traps, Control de Velocidad with appropriate big yellow warning signs with cameras on the next gantry all work too, you can be driving at the legal limit, 120 kph and some big ass Audi and/or Mercedes will go hairing past but approaching the speed cameras you'll see them slap on their brakes !!

If your buying here in Spain and go thru Residencia, you have 6 months from getting Residencia before you have to get your Spanish driving licence which also means giving up your UK one but you can photo copy your old UK licence if your nostalgic just like you can shrink and laminate your passport so you dont have to carry your passport around with you.

The Guardia have a website you can log on to in the Focus free monthly magazine. Thats as good as any site you'll need traffic info on or about and is usually bang up to date.

As Bob said, headlamps are the first casualty of the pre ITV, apparently some modern vehicles are fitted with switchable headlamps/lights whereby they can be switched from rhd to lhd, partners Honda Insight didnt have these and she had to get a pair of genuine Honda headlamps at a cost of almost €1000 !!

She got her Honda serviced, two new tyres and some rear brake work done at "The Garage" and they took it to the ITV station at Lorca which we've been told is one of the stricter ITV stations.

You get all your new paperwork, pay the road tax and get new licence plates, we used Zurgena town hall, Unicaja bank and a car spares place on the road into Albox opposite the big Asia shop.

We are bringing with us my Range Rover and my wife’s Mini as they are fairly new 

We intend to drive them on UK plates for a few months and then go through the Spanish registration system 

Both Land Rover and BMW for the mini say in the manuals that the headlamps are switchable so fingers crossed 

We have owned our house in Spain  for 5 yrs and finally moving very much looking forward to it 

We have had the pleasure of the motorway radar on two previous occasions and my wife always says I was driving !!!
