Buying a car for use in Spain

Good morning all, we wish to purchase a car so that we don’t have to have any further dealing with car hire companies as we have been bitten a number of times!! Buying a usedcar seems like a mindfield and we are unsure of where to go and who to trust. The car will stay at our villa and be Spanish insured and registered.

We either want to buy a used Spanish register car in the UK and drive it over.

Or buy from a garage around the Huercal area but we are willing to travel further afield to purchase!

It seems there is so much to be aware of ie past fines or debts linked to the car etc. If I have read right we also have to pay a further 4% purchase tax on top of the price quoted, what is that all about???

Any quidance about where to go and who to trust would be greatly appreciated. We are over in a week or so so could follow up on any leads given.

Hi, we bought a 2nd hand car through Harry at Huercal Overa Ford and got a very good deal and have also recently used motorcade in Mijas, very easy to deal with.

Hi Shaun,

Did you manage to get a second hand car. We are in the same position, we come out every other month and the hire car companies are a law unto themselves. We used to use a company at Murcia, but now they only operate from Alicante. We were thinking about buying second hand and maybe using long term parking on a contract with a company. Just a bit wary of costings on running and parking it.

Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks

Does anyone have experience and recommendations re leasing a car rather than buying? Also experience with companies that you can park at Murcia Airport if you are a non resident? It’s time for me to either buy or lease!
