Hi,I am coming out for a few months (hopefully) to Sta Maria de Nieva.I dont have Internet or a dish. What is the best way to get TV for a few months only. How long does it take to get Internet installed, seeing that this is Spain! Is it better to have fibre broadband if it is available.Any advice gratefully received,Di.

When we first moved here (a couple of years ago), not far from Sta. Maria de Nieve, our internet was installed really quickly - contacted them in the morning and there was a van here at 4pm. That was with WiMax Online (https://wimaxonline.es/) for a wireless connection. We generally find their service pretty good, although at times the speeds can drop off a bit but a call (they have English support if that helps) usually fixes it quickly.

Which operators are available in a given area is very topography dependent. It depends on if you can see their transmitters, but I suspect no problem where you are.

We are in La Hoya, just outside of Santa Maria. WiMAX installed very quickly, a wireless connection to the local transmitter. Usually a good service, but severe weather does disrupt service. I’m not sure what thier shortest tariff period is though.

I am not sure if they still do it, but WiMax used to have a tariff where you paid full price when present but it dropped to 5€ when not using the system. The only downsides to that, is you have to but the router upfront (it is usually included in the rental) and of course if you using the internet in the property to monitor it, it does not help, plus you need to remember to turn off the network when you leave, or they will charge you full price.

Thank you. I have just spoken to Abbie at Rednet,Huercal-Overa this morning and she was very helpful. They do a package for 121 Euros + 30 Euros + 30 Euros for router.Monthly charges, for 30 mbs. are 30.25 Euros, and you can switch it off and not be charged, which suits us.You buy a Firestick from a Firestick seller!!! I dont know who yet.and plug it in your TV and you then have Internet and TV.We are going into their office when we arrive,to sign up.

You can get a Firestick directly off Amazon (UK or ES, you just have to reset the language to English for the latter but they are the same device). If you just want 100% legal content, then your Amazon and Netflix accounts from the UK will work in Spain, but you will see slightly different content because of geography.

Slightly more into a legal grey area, a VPN will let you pretend to be in the UK so things like iPlayer, ITVhub and the similar services for channels 4, 5 and UKTV will work. Right now though Netflix in particular are spotting VPNs so you might have to turn it off and on between watching iPlayer and Netflix. It is a sort of arms race between VPN companies and the content providers.

If you want to delve into the definitely not legal but lots of people do it category, then there are loads of people who will sell you a full IPTV service that gives access to all UK channels, including Sky and the like (a wander around the English Market on the edge of Arboleas will quickly find someone).
