We ae looking to relocate permanently from the uk top live in Almeria and really like the look of Huercal-Overa as a place to live. We don't particularly want an English enclave area and would learn Spanish and adapt to a Spanish way of life. We would appreciate anyone's who has moved there to give their thoughts on its location. We are retired but fit and healthy and prefer an outdoor lifestyle, cycling, swimming and fitness.More than likely we will be visiting in April or march to access the area and get a 10 day rental to explore our options.

Yes .  Take a good look around .

Lovely Monday market in H O .

Best to rent for a longer period to see if the area suits you .

Almeria Airport can be  expensive so Mucia would be your best airport depending where in UK you may want to visit when settled in Spain .

Huercal-Overa is a smallish town but it's municipal area extends a very long way in all directions. It all depends what your priorities are. We rented for 3 months before we found the place we wanted. Do you want to be close to town and the services including the hospital or do you prefer rural or somewhere in between? Public transport is almost non- existent so you will need to drive. We rented in Santa Maria de Nieva and realised it wasn't for us but there is a substantial British community there and in Urcal and they seem happy there. There are no English bars in Huercal-Overa centre but there is one in Santa Maria and another in Urcal. We live near San Francisco and that suits us, 8 minute drive to town and 3 bars within a mile or so. Huercal -Overa got it's first Indian restaurant a few months ago and it's very good, it also has plenty of Spanish restaurants and bars and a good selection of supermarkets. We go to Arbelaos for our Spanish lessons (€8 per lesson each) but I believe the town hall offer free lessons.

The Huercal-Overa Chatter group on Facebook is a great source of information or if you need advice. Voss Homes are the main property company but there are others such as the Garners from C4 and many more

PM me if you need anything

The place in the sun website has listings of all properties for sale in Huercal-Overa and you can filter on price. Swimming pool, land etc. You also will need a solicitor to get your NIE's bank accounts etc prior to buying - I recommend Maria Maroto at MUNDIABOGADOS

Urbanization Las Buganvillas, 15

04621 – Vera (Almeria)

Tel.: 950460999

[email protected] and make an appointment before you arrive, all the staff have good English and as she is not based in Huercal -Overa she is not linked to any of the local estate agents

Thank you for this information which I am sure will be useful when we come over to view the area in Spring.
