I brought a nice shiny year-old oven from England, which was installed by the builder's electrician.  When I turned it on it came on, then fused all the electricity rather than heating up.  I would like to know if a little thing has gone wrong or it was damaged en route and is dead.  Does anyone know, or is, an electrician who might investigate?  Near Urcal.  Thanks for reading this!

Hi,

Do you know the kW size of the oven and the amp size of the breaker? It could be the oven is too powerful for the fuse it is being supplied from. If it blew the fuse straight way however it is quite likely you have a problem with the oven.

Thank you for the answer.  I am trying and get access to that information.  I turned the oven on and put my nice chicken covered in garlic in, it started working then stopped and the electricity went off...

We have an excellent Spanish Electrician in Puerto Lumbreras & would use no-one else. He doesn't speak English but Google Translate or Smartphone/ whatsapp & he translates.

Used Domingo for 14yrs both properties.

He is also a registered plumber/AC & Solar.

Tend to avoid using Brits. Personal choice & experience.

Best wishes,

Bob and Sandra

If it went off after 5 minutes or so it is quite possible that the oven is too powerful for the fuse. When the oven is warming up it is using more power than the fuse is capable of supplying so popped.

You probably won't believe my ignorance, does that mean I can put in a more resistant fuse (in the old days on the farm i believe a nail was used, but that is the v bad old days), make the oven less 'powerful'. or do i have to go and get a Spanish oven to replace it.?

We had a similar problem with our Spanish oven. An electrician we found tried a bigger fuse, but it still blew. He took the oven out and checked its connection's. They were poor and loose. Once tightened and left neater, an odd cooker light stayed off (unless it was switched on) and no more blowing fuses.

Ours seemed to be a mix of needing a bigger fuse and sorting out some poor wiring. Good luck but get someone in to look.

Martin.

Martin, thank you very much, that is a great help: it would be REALLY annoying,  to put it mildly, to replace the oven and find the same thing happened!

SparkyNick are you an electrician or  BobL, would it be possible to send me the details of the splendid Domingo, so I could ask him to investigate, (espero que hablo suficiamente (mal!) espanol por explicar) or does anyone know of someone who could do so near Urcal?

Bess, no problem. I'd try Bob's person. Sounds good.

If no joy, I could pass on my chaps details. He is English but, took his time & was thorough. (However, he is also a bit of an odd job person & 'probably' not legal, if you know what I mean). He still solved it though (and I did try to get someone on here & some local Spanish people).

Martin.
