I guess if you travel to Ireland first, then board the ferry you would be fine, although I'm imagining the cost would be substantial.

Best of luck anyways

Patricia

Hi Patricia...yes it would cost that bit more...but, as I am retiring to my apartment in Almeria (and have been trying to do so since January), it would be worth the expense if it means I can actually get there, and finally begin the next chapter in my life...the only complication I see would be the 72 hours pre-departure PCR test...I would need to have it to board the ferry at Fishguard, and again at Rosslare, and possibly to show on arrival at Bilbao...and all within 72 hours of having done the test in the UK...Mission Impossible or what!!!

Yea, you might need to get a test done in Ireland before you board the ferry for Bilboa. Look into it, I'm sure being Irish you will be able to manage anything!

Best of luck from one Irish person to another 🍀🍀

Thanks Patricia...why is life so complicated...to be able to get a PCR test in Ireland (for travel to Spain), I would need to isolate first (somewhere near Rosslare) for 14 days, and then be tested again...so, that would be two ferries, two tests and a 14 day stay in Ireland...however, by simply 'transiting' through Rosslare, I gather that I would not need to self isolate...all so confusing...the more I look into this the more it does indeed seem like MISSON IMPOSSIBLE 2...good to hear from another Irish person on this forum...OH to get to Spain, and to truly start my retirement...

Oh I forgot about the quarantine thing, yes pretty complicated. I heard that Pedro Sánchez is dropping the state of alarm in early May. Maybe it is wiser for you to wait till then, less expensive possibly?

You will get here eventually, it's the best thing both myself and hubby have done, retired to Spain. Dream come true, it is complicated trying to travel, but could be worse, look at all the British who have had their dreams dashed with having a British passport.

Take care, patricia

Hello, if travelling on an EU passport you should not have problems entering Spain from the uk since the restrictions were eased on 31st March.

I believe travel is now permitted for all EU citizens, I'll try to post a link here, and I'll copy an extract from the page

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements#permitted

Entry to Spain

Spain’s borders are open to European Union and Schengen-area countries, however certain entry restrictions and testing requirements are currently in force for travel into Spain, see Permitted reasons to enter Spain and Testing requirements.

Some restrictions on travellers from outside the European Union and the Schengen free-travel area remain in place. You should refer to the Spanish Embassy in the country you are in for further advice.

Passenger travel from the UK to Spain is restricted to EU and Schengen associated state citizens, those who are legally resident in the EU or in Schengen associated states or those passengers who can demonstrate that their journey is essential. For further information on the permitted reasons to enter Spain and necessary documentation see Permitted reasons to enter Spain.

Good luck

Many thanks for all your replies to my predicament...

I have also been i contact with the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain, and they have told me that despite what the GOV.UK website seems to say, at the moment only Spanish Nationals and those already resident in Spain will be permitted to enter from the UK.

So, despite the fact that I am an EU citizen (Irish national & passport holder), Spanish border control authorities are choosing to deny me, and similar individuals, entry (at the moment).

As Patricia said in her reply, hopefully the lifting of the state of alarm in early May should bring some more clarity to the situation, and maybe I should wait until then, i.e. rather than running the risk of arriving at Santander (from the UK) or Bilbao (from Ireland) with all my belongings in my UK registered car and being refused entry...

Who would have thought that retiring to Spain (where I am already a property owner, and an EU citizen) would be so problematic...

But, I know that I will get there eventually, and what a retirement I am going to have in my beloved Espana...can't wait...gracias...

I have friends from Ireland who have just returned to Spain.

They drove here, i will try find out if they had any difficulties. I am a bit puzzled myself how they got in as they do not have Residencia?

Because they are EU citizens.

I was led to believe that Spain was not allowing anyone in under current restrictions. Of course I am aware my friends are EU citizens as am I.

Dear Patricia

EU citizens are most certainly here as Mojacar is full of French and German tourists! It may be more difficult to travel from Ireland because of quarantine regulations on the return to Eire?

Thank you Juliet,

My family have held off visiting as I've told them they won't get in, I find the whole thing so confusing🤔 depending on where I read the information such conflicting reports.

Anyway, I'm grateful for you taking the time to respond.

Have a lovely day

Patricia 🙏
