spanish home owners and permanent residency

I was holding off answering because I was watching reports from House of Commons.

The house has just voted by 4 vote majority to take a No Deal Brexit off the table for good.  To my mind this means that Article 50 will HAVE to be extended now - or completely abandoned, if we are lucky ...

This gives you a bit more time I’d say, but I would surely pursue Residencia sooner rather than later ....

Dario is right. The chance of Brexit not happening has improved. However if it happens then obtaining residency in the future will be significantly harder for U.K. citizens arriving in Spain. It’s likely that it will be a requirement (as with other third countries) that you would have to demonstrate an annual income of apkrox £26,000 (that’s for one adult applicant).

However, residency can only be applied for if you are actually living here.

We are in the same situation as you in that we wanted to spend 6 months in Spain and 6 months in UK next year. After looking into it and with the brexit looming we have decided to wait and see. Our apartment is in Vera Playa and we called into the solicitors for advice on what was required to get the process carried out now,, which could of been done except that we was also advised on this forum that we would  have to pay for private healthcare for 12months upfront which was around 1600Euros for both of us. We now are going to keep our fingers crossed for next year and live in hope.

Also someone has just stated we can't apply for Residency now because we don't live their.

There are plenty of people with Residencia that don’t live here full time.  Residencia allows you to stay for longer than the 90 days visit a UK passport allows even now.

Residencia will require you to be on the Padrón and produce a Certificado de Empadronamiento less than 3 months old; you will need to prove access to healthcare, either by proof of private health insurance, Reciprocal agreement with NHS as pensioners, or by payment of Autónomo as an employee, business owner, sub-contractor or whatever and therefore entitlement to Spanish health services.  You will also need proof of income of some kind, however derived, be it employment, pension, income from rental properties here or overseas - whatever - or you need to provide a certificate from your bank attesting to having in the last financial year an annual balance of 9.750,00 € per person applying.

There are other smaller requirements, payment of application fee taxes etc but those three are the main ones.

The biggest hurdle is that there are now no appointments at Almería available before March 29.  Given last nights chaos in House of Commons and the vote before the house today at 5pm UK time, that may all be moot ..... buena suerte .....
