Hi I would like to know what is required for a sea fishing licence and how much they cost.

On another note is it true that to course fish you need to sit a course, if so does this include fly fishing

Thanks in advance

Assuming you are in Andalusia and want to fish inland waters in Andalucia you do need to complete a  2 day course and pass an exam in Spanish to be eligible to apply for a coarse fishing licence and yes it includes fly. If you are wanting to fish elsewhere in Spain you can pay the fee buy a licence and fish inland waters. You cannot though buy a licence in say, Murcia, then use this to fish in Andalucia. Depending on which water you wish to fish you may also need to buy a permit for that specific place.

For beach fishing in Andalucia you only need an ID - passport or TIE and pay the fee. Not sure of current costs but I paid less than Eur20 for a 3 year permit in 2019. Again not knowing where you are located it’s difficult to advise where to apply. If you are in or around Mojácar the fishing tackle shop next to the Repsol garage on the beach road from Garrucha to Mojácar will be able to assist. If you are elsewhere then first port or call should be your local tackle shop.

Thanks for the reply. I can go to the shop near the Repsol garage. That's great thanks

Hi Ian,

For sea fishing what's the laws on having a boat of your own and launching at the coast for a pleasure trips and fishing with rods. Is it just a case of reversing down and getting your small boat off and into the water? I guess boats have to have some form of registration on them? And just get your plates fitted to the boats trailer same as your car and away you go.

I know a bit about fishing here but very little on boats. The easy bit is that in Andalucia you need a separate  licence for boat fishing, I’ve never applied for one but understand that it’s similar to beach licence application i.e. ID and pay a fee.

With regard to boats and trailers what I do know is that any trailer over 750kg gross needs to be matriculated, insured and tested. Under 750kg you need an ITV certificate, an approved licence plate same as you would have on car it cannot be handwritten or “bodged”, the towing vehicle must have specified insurance cover for towing and you need a fire extinguisher in the towing vehicle at all times when towing.

To pilot the boat as a minimum you need a navigation license this allows you to drive a boat up to 6m in length no more than 2 miles offshore and only between sunrise and sunset.

The regs on boat import if you are bringing in from another country and annual tax/certification costs seem to be very complicated and a quick Google search seems to bring up plenty of conflicting info. If you bring your vessel in from outside Spain for more than 6 months, or maybe 1 year, you will definitely need to have it certified and pay taxes. How much etc seems to be a difficult question to answer. Seems like you would need to find specialist advice from either an Abogado or maybe a boat broker

I have, a couple of times, seen people launching boats at our local beach (Palomares) whether this is legal I have no idea although I suspect not. For sure where there are yellow buoys off the beach no boats are allowed in the area so launching not possible. . If there are red and green buoy channel markers from the beach then in theory you can launch in that channel but I suspect there are limitations on boat types and sizes.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

For better info I suggest that a trip to your local harbour master maybe a good starting point. Not sure where you are but there is a harbour master and what seems to be a pleasure boat launching ramp at Garrucha harbour - probably a good starting point.

Hi Ian,

Very helpful all that info many thanks, I'm half and hour inland from Garrucha so I may well go and investigate. There's plenty there to research and find out for sure.

Many thanks

Neil.
