My wife and I have been residents since 2005 and have a green residency certificate. We have been contacted by our bank this morning to tell us it is now invalid and we must get a TIE card. Does anybody know if we have to go all the way to Almeria foreign office or is there somewhere local. All the websites we've checked have conflicting information. Many thanks Jim

your green certificate is not invalid if it has perminant  on it and does not have to be exchanged for a TIE card.  Which bank has told you that you have to?  You can get a TIE card if you want to as it may make it easier to travel back into Spain if you go out for any reason but you have to go to the Foreign offices in Almeria by appointment only and they are still busy with the backlog of Ex pats who did not have the green certificate when Brexit came.

Your bank is completely wrong.  Green residencia cards remain valid by order of Spanish government.

This lifted directly from Ministerio del Interior (translated)

"The current registration certificates and the cards of family members of EU citizens - these during their validity period - available to British citizens and their relatives residing in Spain are valid documents to prove legal residence in Spain prior to 1 January 2021, and benefit from the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement.

From July 6, 2020, the beneficiary cards of the Withdrawal Agreement have been issued, the obtaining of which is not mandatory but it is recommended because it is a uniform EU model."

Here´s a direct link to this page, in case you'd like to print the Spanish version and present to your bank

We made our application for our TIE last Thursday and our 1st appointment was today so no backlog of Ex Pats.

that's good news Crancrank nice to know that they are catching up now.  think we will wait for a while yet though to avoid the standing in the queue and not much chance to social distance.

We found the process to be very quick, and limited amounts of queuing.  It does have to be done in Almeria though.  We booked appointments on line, and the options were tomorrow, the day after or the day after that, so really no wait.  When attending the appointment to submit our application we were then given an appointment to collect our cards which was about 6 weeks later.  We did have to queue for that one, but it was well controlled by the somewhat officious doorman, and safely socially distanced.

Did you have it done in Almeria itself ?

Yes.  The only option in Almeria province is the Oficina de Extranjeria in Calle Maruecos in Almeria City.
