Green Residency card vs TIE card

yes but of course they are saying exchange it for a TIE card asap as it is easier to use and has the codes for the powers that be to process it.

Yes of course, please remember also the TIE isn’t applicable to everyone. Those with Irish passport for example.

I thought so too, until I was told my card wasn’t valid…….and my passport stamped on entry to Spain🤔

I arrived home yesterday from the Uk after an absence of 3 days, only to be told at passport control in Almeria, my green card was no longer valid, and passport stamped! No problem back in March when I last travelled, so couldn’t understand why this had occurred unless the rules had changed. Interesting times…….thanks Brexit😡

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence, with various oficiales having their own interpretation of the rules - it’s a distinct lack of communication from central government down to, and training of, relevant authorities.

Your green Residencia card is still valid - don’t worry about the stamp on the passport, your Residencia card overrides that and proves residency.

I WOULD start considering a swap to TIE though because I don’t think it will be too long before “we suggest you swap” becomes “it’s obligatory”

Thank you for taking the time to respond DarioMartin, I did think the particular official was wrong, but thought best not to challenge this at the time, mainly due to amount of people waiting to get through passport control upon entry to Spain. I am aware that that the change to having a TIE is likely to become mandatory, therefore logic suggests I should pursue this for any future travel.

It’s further complicated by many officials not knowing the rules. My wife was told she must have a TIE, she asked why, the guy said “ all English are now third country nationals “ she said, yes but I’m not English, and showed her Irish passport. Even our bank tried telling us a TIE was now required! Wrong again. 

Yes I agree; officials are not always clear themselves, making things even more difficult.
