1. If you have a holiday home in RoI and live in the UK, there are no restrictions, you may come and go as you please. My next door neighbours at the moment are from the UK and will be in Ireland for at least another month. The Covid situation here worsened since December and our UK visitors fear infection from us as much as we fear infection from them. But, they are wearing chin masks ensuring they wont cause infection or receive infection through their designer stubble.
2. Legislation has been introduced here to have all travellers from Brazil, South-Africa and such like countries isolate at their own expense in a nominated hotel for a fortnight where they will be supervised. /We wonder how anybody arriving in NI heading for RoI (from SA, Brazil etc) will be screened. The land border is 150 miles in length and peppered with accessible unapproved roads and such entry is hardly policeable on either side.
3. Tighter travel restrictions are now being enforced and travel to and from airports are heavily policed with fines being dished out. Self Isolation of two weeks is now applicable by law from those arriving from Spain. This will be policed more seriously than hitherto. Fines have been increased five fold for anybody taking a chance.
4. There are more hints by the day (from politicians, television presenters etc) suggesting holidays abroad (even within the EU) won't happen until after the summer, at least and possibly until 2022. Looks like Spain 2021 for us is history, I regret to say. Many are moaning that their €19.00 flight fares won't be refunded. My heart goes out to them. Those from the UK whinging that they can stay only 90 days at a time in Spain this year get the same sympathy from me.
5. I'm just wondering if the vaccine programme is effective as advertised todate. Roll-out of the vaccines seems to be delayed because of availability and storage. Even yesterday news about some health facility lost their entire supply of the vaccine because of improper storing. You couldn't make up worse. Even the dogs on the road know how the vaccine should be properly stored.
Matthew, your very first paragraph sums up the reason why the whole world is in such a mess. Until people stop travelling and stay where they are that this moment in time, whether it be their main residence or a holiday home, we wont beat it. People that travel to holiday homes, 'because they haven;t seen if for a few months' or decide they fancy a nice little trip make my blood boil.

I would love to go to my holiday home like anyone else but I’ll enjoy it more when the time comes. I be keep checking news feeds so I’m up to date on everything so I don’t get anything wrong when I’m allowed to go julie

If everyone was as responsible as us, we wouldn;t be in this mess, like you I would like to visit my daughter in the UK, but no way would I put myself, my daughter, and anyone else that I come into contact with at risk, its just madness. thanks for your reply.

Hi Julie,
Yes I will, but keep an eye on this forum because Dario and Alicia are very good at posting new information. But I will keep you posted of anything new. At the moment there is a rumour that we could be going into Full Lockdown soon, so its going to get worse before it gets better here.
Stay Safe Jenni

In March/April 2020 I posted that holidays for all of 2020 were at risk until at least September. Many posters here shouted me down and in no uncertain terms. I even received messages by emails and Private Messages informing me that I was some kind of prophet of doom and was wrong. Needless to sa...

...y I was right as usual and even the high summer season was lower than expected. Problems with the Covid-19 situation in Spain and elsewhere continued and tourism has not recovered since. The Spanish government along with other european governments learnt that all must take the hit sooner or later. They are all taking the hit now.
In the past few weeks (and much too late) countries in europe closed their doors to tourists. Finally, something positive against Covid was happening.
Pedro Sanchez announced tourism in Spain to foreigners would not happen until the end of 2021. There have been conflicting ministerial reports since and as usual confusion reigns.
I see no reason why card carrying people who can prove they have received the vaccine cannot enter Spain. I bet receivers of the vaccine will be allowed into Spain and in time for summer 2021. This begs the question how long will take countries to administer the vaccine? That's the main problem from where I sit.
Earlier this week England's deputy chief medical officer Prof Jonathan Van-Tam said Scientists "do not yet know the impact of the vaccine on transmission". What he is saying is that even if one has received the vaccine it may still be possible to pass on the disease to others.
I hope you are correct and once a high level of vaccinations have been administered travel will recommence but at the moment no one knows and its conjecture.
