it's an unknown quantity.  while the virus keeps going the rules of travel will probably not change as each country seeks to keep it's contagion levels low.  I would say that the future will have travel around testing and vaccinations as a means to allow it but not for some time yet.  Everytime we get locked down the R rate drops only to rise again when they open the borders and allow us to move freely around.  So masks to be worn and social distancing to be observed for the forseable  future.  Fingers crossed you'll get back here soon.

Hi Julie, Many of us are in the same boat observing all restrictions and trying to remain safe from Covid-19. Like yourself, we haven't been to Spain in nearly a year. We could have visited last summer, but with the virus alive and spreading we thought that we would like not to infect anybody or be infected. I must commend you for staying away when it was easy to travel. Many travelled to and from Spain and probably didn't care a whit about what infection they might cause. If they are not capable of washing their hands properly how good do you think they are with everything else?

Everybody wants to have tourism restored to Spain, but only when it is safe to do so. The vaccine is the key to travel being opened up again. But, this will take some time and there are a few more obstacles to be overcome. Only time will tell and if we all behave properly the time will be short, but there are those who just don't care and think their presence on the Costas is a must. Spare a thought for the traders in Spain who are clinging onto their businesses by their finger tips. They've endured huge losses while their landlords appear not to care. The casualty rate will be horrendous as the situation unfolds.

The measures against Covid both in Spain and the rest of the world suggest that prevention is better than the cure. This situation had to come sooner or later. But, those who travelled last year ensured it would be later rather than sooner.

Hi thank you for your reply’s. I’m not working at moment sent home to shield. I keep look at news feeds and it’s the same thing nothing seems to be changing. Hopefully by end of summer we might all have had vaccines. Can anybody let me know if anything changes julie

Without wanting to destroy hope, I’d suggest don’t count on coming this year.  Pedro Sánchez has decreed no international tourism until 70% population is vaccinated and at current rollout, that won’t happen this year.

In March/April 2020 I posted that holidays for all of 2020 were at risk until at least September. Many posters here shouted me down and in no uncertain terms. I even received messages by emails and Private Messages informing me that I was some kind of prophet of doom and was wrong. Needless to say I was right as usual and even the high summer season was lower than expected. Problems with the Covid-19 situation in Spain and elsewhere continued and tourism has not recovered since. The Spanish government along with other european governments learnt that all must take the hit sooner or later. They are all taking the hit now.

In the past few weeks (and much too late) countries in europe closed their doors to tourists. Finally, something positive against Covid was happening.

Pedro Sanchez announced tourism in Spain to foreigners would not happen until the end of 2021. There have been conflicting ministerial reports since and as usual confusion reigns.

I see no reason why card carrying people who can prove they have received the vaccine cannot enter Spain. I bet receivers of the vaccine will be allowed into Spain and in time for summer 2021. This begs the question how long  will take countries to administer the vaccine? That's the main problem from where I sit.

EU wanted 70% of its total population (EU wide) vaccinated by end of summer 2021; unfortunately at current rate of rollout, to achieve that target will take until 2024 at current estimates!!

It hasn’t helped that both Pfizer and AstraZeneca have announced delays in production of the vaccine by up to 60% - I’m given to understand that Italy has launched a lawsuit against Pfizer I think it is for breach of contract.

Neither Moderna nor AstraZeneca are approved for use in EU yet - that should happen around 29/1, but even then, the AstraZeneca delays in production means they can’t meet their EU commitments.

Compounding that is that the vaccine doesn’t seem to stop transmission - it just seems to lessen the effects; so even if someone IS vaccinated, there is the risk that if they come to a largely un-vaccinated country, the virus can still be transmitted to the un-vaccinated and run rife. Again.

Really cannot see Spain opening up for summer.  The tourist Euros are nice, staying alive long enough to enjoy them is better.

Isn,t part of the eu problem they allowed France to demand the EU sign up to its own vacine that is still awaiting completion and successful trials.

Don't want to re ignite flames of fury, but could this be one thing that Britain has achieved better now it is independent  of EU legislation ?
