I have a query about TIE.  My husband has a permanent residencia green card but mine does not say permanent although I have been here nearly 18 years!!  Does that mean that my husband does not need to change but I do?  Many thanks and would appreciate any comments.

As i haven't got a green card just the A4 piece of paper i dont know but would imagine if they were issued at the same time i would think they are both permanent.  If you have renewed your padron recently and they accepted it i would think you are ok.  If it were me   i wouldn't do anything to cause extra hassle.  Just go with the flow!  We've got enough to cope with  at this time with covid and all the regulations.

Update... Well, we're sorted.  Mick's appointment was for today, mine on Monday.  Mick asked the guy who processed his if he would see me afterwards and the guy said 'yes', he even came outside to get me. All very quick and easy, back in four weeks to collect the new cards.

If we hadn't changed address recently and had horrible problems getting on the padron we probably wouldn't have bothered just yet but I'm glad we did 😊

Hi,

Do you need to exchange the green residencia card for the new TIE, or can one just continue to use this,

There is, at the moment, absolutely no requirement to swap the Green Residencia card for a TIE which explicitly states your rights pursuant to WA.

We decided to swap for two reasons - if we travel to UK for any reasons, we don’t want any hold up or hassle, getting back into the country.  We can still use the EU lane; plus there are still a lot of Funcionarios who do not understand the ruling and seem convinced that the green Residencia card for UK Nationals is invalid post 31/12.

The second reason is that it takes away the need to carry around a passport as a green Residencia card is not identification.  The “new” TIE, being biometric, is

A third reason is that it is highly likely that whilst now the green Residencia card remains valid, at some point in the future, a Spanish government will require the swap for UK Nationals to TIE.  I’d rather get in now than a few years down the track when confusion reigns over the process.

The process now is very very simple.

No - neither need to swap, but if you do, you’ll both get cards saying “permanente” and valid for 10 years

I know a couple who were seperated, because he had the new card and she had the old green A4 paper. So be careful. And we,ll all have to change eventually.

Hi Dario

I noticed your point about using the EU lane when re-entering Spain.

Is that with a British passport?

Kind regards

Steve

Further to that ... that WAS going to be one of the benefits, sadly, it didn’t come off, so even with a TIE, you still use the “non EU passport holder” slow lane
