Hi we are in Los Lobos not far from La Portilla and less than 10 minutes from San Juan and its fabulous beaches bars, supermarkets etc. La Portillo is mainly Spanish and close to Cuevas with its beautiful historic buildings, Town Hall and all amenities. Los Lobos has a number of English people there and San Juan is also mixed with Spanish and Europeans and has English quizzes, a ladies group etc. It all depends in what you looking for. It is very easy to get everywhere fro. This area has good motorway and toll connections. Very easy to get to Vera, Turre, Mojacar, Heurcal Overa, Albox etc.

I am into motorcycle racing Susi but have never heard of a race track there Maybe it's off road Moto cross type activities? That occurs all over this district...

Not sure about that, but would suggest visiting the area in the evening as people are now outside later. You can then check out the noise levels, if children play in the street and if people gather in groups as this is when it can get noisy.
My friend was born in Portilla. It is on the outskirts of Cuevas and is very small. There are often radar traps at the junction so be carefully with your speed.
You can see the photos.
Regarding Cuevas, it is an agricultural town hosting many migrant workers from South America who work in the fields.
The location of Cuevas is well placed for easy access to motorways and beaches being 20 minutes or so by car.
Good luck with your purchase and I hope you will be happy.
