Hi, i am somewhat confused by the fact i would have to pay CGT to Spain from sale of uk property?

Is anyone on here who has moved post brexit&had to pay CGT from sale of property&how much did you pay as this will/may impact me re-locating if its a fortune OR can anyone give me details of a Englush speaking person who deals with tax/solicitor to advise me. I just want clarification as to how much my move(on top of property purchase) will cost me. Thank you

Hi

You will be liable for Spanish CGT if you sell your UK property in any year you are a Spanish tax resident. Please note that this is not the same as being  a legal resident.

The Spanish tax year runs January 1st - December 31st. Whether you have residencia or not, you become a tax resident of Spain, and liable for Spanish taxation, in any tax year where you spend 183 days or more.

This means that, for example, if you sell your house in May, move to Spain in June and spend the rest of that year in Spain then you would be liable for Spanish taxation on that year's global income including any profit on selling your house.

I am not an expert, my knowledge of this is based on personal experience. Please do take professional advice as taxes are high here.

Hi Juliet thank you for that though i think its wrong to be taxed on uk property sale esp if your purchadingba spanish property&then pay added tax on top of that(which is fine as same in Uk) but not happy about paying CGT on my UK property so need to look into this as may have to empty my bank accounts&put miney under mattress&just come with the amount required as fingers crossed i will be getting an EU passport. I dont have issue paying "fair taxes" but not on my UK property. Have to see about this as im sure not everyone has done this when moving from UK as i will be applying for residency(not holiday home).😁
