Don't get caught out on the changes to travel for non residents with UK passports.

The requirement is that you must have at least 6 months left on your UK passport at the time of entry (I thought mine had for my potential visits in June and August as it expires in Feb 2022).

However the big catch is that the dates are calculated from the ISSUE DATE of your passport and works from 10 years from the Issue Date.  A lot of people in UK renewed their existing passport and the passport office have added on extra months that were left from their last passport.  From 2021 these extra months added on are no longer included in calculating how many months left.

There is a UK government website  for Renewing Passports and this has a calculator to tell you when you need to renew your current UK passport to travel to Spain. Unless you have recently renewed your passport I recommend that you all check this out. You will be surprised at the dates quoted.

For me I am just glad that someone brought this to my attention, I dread to think about at last getting to the airport to travel only to be turned away because of my passport date.

Thanks for this 'warning' Grant. It prompted me to check my passport as I knew it expires April 22. But then I remembered I got a new one early last time to facilitate a 2 year Visa and sure enough the passport start date was August 11. As I am hoping to travel to Vera in June I made a mad rush to aply for a new passport yesterday - they say it could be 10 weeks but should be quicker, fingers crossed.

Glad that you found out now rather than at check in.

10 weeks is worst case. I have also rushed a passport application in on 7th April and today received an acknowledgement of Approval so just waiting for printing. I think it may take another week but at least I will have it. I am sure you will get yours early as well.

Fingers crossed, so it seems you might get yours on a 3-4 week turnround.

Hi MRM,

Are you finding complicated to request a Visa?

What solicitors/company you use to do legal translation of documents in Spanish?

Thank you

MRM

I received my new passport tonight 14th April by special delivery. I didn't pay any extra , so it took exactly one week to renew my passport.

Thats a good service!

Fingers crossed for yours.
