Good evening. With the Exit Polls here in the UK suggesting a Tory Victory, I was thinking of what paperwork I would need to pack for my flight Monday to get the Residency application going in January, should the Spanish authorities open their doors.

Being 60 I will get private health care upfront. I have a property in Turre and have the NIE, Padron, all P60's for 18/19 Tax years as well as Inland Revenue tax code breakdown showing income. All pensions are UK Government (will be taxed in the UK) Private Pension obviously taxable in Spain and Marriage certificate if my wife wishes to join me!!

I believe I am good togo paperwork wise and off course I have my passport. I can if required print my UK bank statement online.

Have I missed something out please?

The next question is am I best using a qualified lawyer or an agency wike CATS please?

Also, will I qualify for 2 tax allowances; one in UK and one in Spain in which case I would be in pocket as such.

Many thanks.

You will need to make copies of all the documents which will be kept with your application form and proof of payment.  Don't waste your money using a third party to process the application. Follow Jim's Guide on this forum, complete the application and the document for payment. Apply on line for the appointment.

Thanks to Jim's excellent guide we received our Residencias last week and saved €280! ( €140 each our neighbours were charged by their solicitor.)

We used CATS in La Alfoquia cost 150 Euros all in for 2 of us including the use of their translator for the appointment in Almeria. They are well known at the office in Almeria which helps things run smoothly

You do certainly need to try get Residencia at least applied for prior to Brexit; once Brexit has happened we all will have to reapply for TIEs, as we will no longer be EU residents and therefore not eligible for Residencia.

Chrisso50 has published some excellent posts on what will be required to swap from Residencia to TIE post Brexit

It’s what will replace our current green Residencia cards after Brexit.  It stands for “Tarjeta de Identidad Extranjero” - it’s a plastic Biometric identity card bearing your photo and all other information. It’s very similar to the Spanish Citizens DNI card

And as I understand it, like the DNI card, must be renewed every 5 years

Hi Dario. Just reading your post about the TIE s. We have now received Irish passports, but we are currently registered on our English ones, do you think it would pay us to register on Irish passports, rather than apply for TIE. Many thanks for your input on this.

This is purely my opinion, so take it for what it’s worth, but if it were me, I’d certainly be investigating that.

It’s a difficult question because Spain has said that for those with Residencia, the swap to TIE will be “practically Automatic”. Practically ... whatever that may mean and will be largely dependent on how Johnson now treats Spanish citizens resident in U.K.

Either way, it will mean a re-application; Residencia using Irish passports may be the easiest way to go and would still allow freedom of movement etc.
