Hi Guys

we are moving to Mojacar in December, I posted a question on here two days ago, and had some very very helpful replies - I thank you very much for this.

We have just received a removal quote of £11,640.00.from Cambridgeshire to La Parata, which includes 3 weeks storage in the UK.

This is based on picking up the already packed goods from our home, storing it for three weeks in the UK, before bringing onto Mojacar. This does include two persons.

I have to say that I thought £11,640 was quite a lot when I’ve looked at other similar (although bit rough) quotes?

What do you guys think-does that sound expensive to you guys with experience?

Many thanks again for your help

Cheers. Brian

Hi, that sounds a lot. You can get storage in Spain for €100 to 300 per month. A full house removal of  furniture maybe €5000 tops.

Hi Brian 00 that's sound a lot of money.  We moved from Staffordshire to Arboleas 3 years ago and had our furniture stored for 3 months, they wrapped and packed our pictures and mirrors and other fragile items. We were charged £4000. The company we used was Union Jack Removals they were excellent. Good luck with your move, stay safe.

When I moved from Ipswich to Mojacar three years ago Weston and Edward's charged just over £3500 which included boxes, packing and three months storage so yes your quote is very expensive.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me.

It would seem that the consensus of opinion is that we are being quoted way over the top.

Again, many thanks for your time and effort.

Hi Jenni,

Yep, that definitely seems to be the opinion of everybody.

I’m going to keep on looking.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply to me.

Cheers. Brian.

You haven't mentioned how big your house is, so it may be that the figures people are talking about here are based on smaller properties than yours.

When we were planning our move I took several quotes which ranged from £5k to £12k.  All were internet quotes based on the number of bedrooms in the house that we were moving from, and subject to amendment once they had viewed the actual size of the job.  My gut feel was that the higher quotes were probably being more realistic, while the lower quotes were sucking me in with a view to increasing the cost once they had a look round.

On the basis that the cost for us was likely to be somewhere between the two extremes, but probably nearer the top end, I decided to do it myself.  I hired a long wheelbase van for one trip to get the big stuff in, but other than that just made regular trips loading up each time.  There were several circumstances that meant this worked for us, but probably not for everyone, not least that I have my own short wheelbase van.

Hi,

it has been a very interesting exercise with wildly different quotes.

When I turned down the initial quote I received of £11.6k, they did come back to me this morning with an offer of £8.3k. Attributed as they were able to identify a different partner at the Spanish end, which I felt was strange as I was led to believe they were door-to-door.

Anyway, today I was able to organise several new quotes, with five of them coming in very close to each other. I checked their star rating and reviews, and decided to go with a mid priced one.

Hopefully, I’ve done the right thing - but only time will tell I suppose.

if it had been five years ago, I would certainly have done what you have done. However, the arthritis now even I have it’s me from using a pen - hence the move to the sun!

Thank you very much for your information, it did help me and making my final decision.

Take care.
