Hello

My name is Lisa and I am new to the forum.  We are considering buying a holiday home in Mojacar this year but one of the stumbling blocks is that we can't get flights to Almeria from where we live in England until May so the transfer down from Alicante to Mojacar out of season appears to be very expensive.  Is there any one locally in Mojacar who does reasonably priced airport runs to and from Alicante?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts :)

Lisa

The shuttle bus covers Alicante to Mojacar. 30 Euros each adult each way. Only covers flights arriving before 1145am or departing after 1030am

All the details are on the link. Good luck.

The other option is to consider using Murcia or Almeria airports.

Martin.

Hi Martin

Many thanks for your quick response.  We were hoping to get a return flight that leaves at 8.30am so shuttle bus is no good.  Looks like we will have to ensure our return flight departs after 10.30am.  Thanks for your advise.

Looking forward to coming over next month.

Lisa

Hi Lisa We have had a holiday home for five years here and generally fly into Alicante. There is a bus which runs to Mojacar but we have always hired a car. I have just bought a car and will now be parking it at Alicante airport which is another option. If you consider Águilas which is a lovely little town 20 miles up the coast toward Murcia there’s a train which I believe runs from close to Murcia Airport. Good luck with holiday home. Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks for that.  Unfortunately we can't get direct flights to Murica at the moment, hopefully that may change in the future if demand is there.  We normally hire a car but wanted to explore other options as we've been stung twice recently when we got home with charges on our credit card.  One of the Estate Agents also mentioned about leaving a car at the airport but because we didn't know anyone who'd done this we were a little sceptical however it would be a good option for us.  How have you found it is it reliable?

Hi Lisa I haven’t used them yet as I’m bringing a car out in March but my uncle who has a place in Pinar uses Seguro Parking and he thinks they are really good. Easy and reliable. Car hire in Spain is one of the few things about the country that I really don’t like! I have been stung a few times. Andy

Which car hire company were you using?  Do you have a yearly insurance for minor damage (much cheaper, but you have to stick to your guns when the company tries to charge you for theirs')?

I hardly dare say this, but over many many years of car hire we have never had additional credit card charges, though we have major issues with Goldcar - once when we had a puncture  and the spare wheel was unusable they maintained that we had sold the spare wheel and substituted it with another, all a few hours after arrival....

Hi Lisa. Out of interest,  roughly where do you live in the UK.  We are in Clacton and used to use Gatwick a lot (100 miles one way to the airport). Then we found Southend airport flew to Murcia so started using that. Similar flight prices but not as busy as Gatwick and half the distance each way. Only 2 flights a week but works for us.

Martin.

Thanks for all your responses everyone, I can see this forum is going to be useful.

It was Goldcar & Firefly who charged us extra costs despite having already paid for extra insurance when we booked our flights with Ryanair and making it clear at the desk we didn't need extra insurance.  Obviously I complained to everyone when we got back but they all had slopey shoulders, hey ho you live and learn.

We live in the North East of England not far from Newcastle airport.

Goldcar were the culprits on both occasions! Yes I have excess insurance and they paid out so it didn't actually cost me, just caused unnecessary hassle. I am looking forward to having a car here so I don't have to deal with Goldcar again! I do understand that their prices are low though so perhaps I shouldn't complain! Andy
