Spain is going through one of its worst periods in history. Covid-19 is taking its toll by the minute at this stage in Spain. The whole situation is tragic and unfortunately there's more to come.

I glanced through TripAdvisor last night and it is brimming with posts like "Will I lose my deposit as I booked a hotel/apartment for June?" - Others are concerned whether Spain will up and running by October 2020. The replies differ and many are obviously lying through their teeth; some give what I think is more accurate information (i.e. perhaps November is a good month in which to review the situation?) . To be honest it was mainly the Costa del Sol section I read.

There were far too many posts to dismiss. It appears the posters cannot get accurate information from Spanish hotels, Spanish agents or from their travel agents. Many cannot get their deposits refunded. Is there a problem that is preventing people in the holiday industry telling the truth?

Here we go again, more scaremongering. Matt do you really think that quoting posts from trip adviser is an acurate way to gauge the situation?

Most holiday company's and Hotels are in the dark on when this will be over as you and I are, they will wait till the last minute to cancel holidays just in case, also they know plenty will have paid deposits and will not pay the balance, so breaking the contract and losing the deposit.

1. In TripAdvisor you get differing opinions of what will happen to the summer season good and bad. But, let's not fool ourselves, Spain is living a tragedy along with other countries with the Covid-19 situation. Strangely, it is the posters on TA with thousands of posts ( +probably rent out their holiday homes) are playing down the situation.

2. We rent out our property too. I refunded all booking deposits three weeks ago.

3. I would love to be wrong in my prediction regarding summer 2020, but I am not stupid.

Hi Crancrank and anybody else,

If you think I'm "scaremongering again" can you offer some positive thoughts to convince anybody looking in that this summer in Spain will be favourable to apartment landlords and to holidaymakers?

I can easily compile posts that suggest this summer will be the worst on record for Spanish holidays. I look forward to anybody who can put a positive spin on the situation.

Positive spin, yep

at the end of the outbreak and when it is back to normal there will be some VERY cheap holidays on offer

For all those thinking there will be a return to normalcy even by end of April, think again

https://www.thelocal.es/20200403/when-and-how-will-spains-lockdown-measures-end

On various embassy sites as well, there are now restrictions on travelers to/from certain countries.  Don't be expecting to see anyone from either USA or UK gracing our shores for a good few months yet.

I have to agree with Matthew - Summer tourist season 2020 is a non-event.  It isn't going to happen.  Maybe by September / October we could start seeing a return of late-season tourism - but before that?  You'd need to be extremely naive to believe that hotels and restaurants will be rocking the tourists this June / July / August.  That just isn't a happening thing I'm afraid

Not often would I agree with Mathew but on tis occasion I would have to.  2020 holiday season will be a write off and many businesses will I belive sadly go under.  Stay safe out there.

Andy, I'm watching my back. I'm getting worried.

Next, you'll be throwing a party in my honour - Corleone Family Style.

BTW - Thanks for the "thumbs up"

Matt
