Hi to anybody that may read this.

We live in England at present ,house on market and hoping to to move this year. We are coming in March to check some areas out just to confirm where we might like to live . I'm sure we wont get all our answers on this visit but it's a start.

we are new to the forum . We are scared but also excited  about the big move so any reassurance will be gratefully accepted. We will be retiring there. Also hope to make some nice friends .

Kay and John

Ps.hope someone answers me as iv noticed in the short time iv been on not all messages get a reply .I understand maybe no one has the answer to them.

Hi Pete thank you so much for the prompt reply I'm glad you have settled in so well. and that makes us feel less worried about the big move. We just need to get on with it and can't wait. We are looking forward to March when we come to check  the area out and see a few properties which will get us excited I'm sure of that.

Thanks again for your reply

Kay and john

Hi Kay and John

We've had the following reply to your message on Facebook if that's of any help:

"Moved to La Alfoquia 4 months ago... great village near Arboleas. Love it here. Lots of amenities.. made loads of friends"

Hi,

We have the 2 properties out here, one on Mojacar Playa and one in the Campo near Puerto Lumbreras. I met my wife out here when she lived in Albox. For me it's the cottage and for Sandra Mojacar Playa, so you see even within a marriage it's " horses for courses". Personally I could never live in Albox/ Arboleas or Urcal as shortly you will have my friend Chevy on extolling the virtues of Urcal.

A few tips.

Do not use the Solicitor recommended by Estate Agent- potential conflict of interest.

If poss. and it seems not in your case, rent for 3 months in Summer & 3 months in Winter/Spring. Be mobile so you can explore  all the surrounding areas in a leisurely fashion.

Albox/ Arboleas is almost geared to Brits and most businesses are English speaking. However we find the prices are also geared to Brits. On a recent Sat. Dish costing, the 2 Firms there were 300€ more than others.

Apart from a phenomenal Brit Builder all the rest of our services are provided by Spanish. Basically having been cheated so many times in 15 years. Take it for granted you will be targeted as newbies. Written quotes & more written quotes.

If you are buying from a Brit consider a CHAPS transfer. 10% deposit in euros has to be paid in Spain but the rest can be paid in GBP UK Bank to UK bank. No fees.

Transfer monies by Transferwise or Currencies Direct. Not via Bank.

And on and on and on.

Oh, you might want to join the old and new Arboleas Forums. We like the old-

www.arboleas.co.uk and you will never be short of a reply if you post on Chatter.

That's it as could go on.all day.

Certainly things are better than 2002/3  &  glad other posters are so positive. For us it was a baptism.of fire which was particularly strange as I have been an expat since 1975.

Best Wishes & Happy New Year,

Dr. Bob and Sandra

We shall be here until April & then off to Croatia in motorhome. After that it's Ecuador & Peru and our Australian Home.

Ask away & will only and honestly help if I can either by  personal knowledge or that of trusted friends.

Hi to last poster. You would be better posting separately and also on

www.arboleas.co.uk under General chatter.

If.you access The Almeria Focus Magazine and Directory on line at the back are all the clubs & activities. From about Page 106 I think. It's a monthly mag also in Hard copy.from.most Brit outlets/ Charity shops.

Just a rule of thumb we have acquired after 15yrs- not.to make friends with those who might later try to sell you services. Our first Builder & so called Solar engineer fell.into this category. Just a friendly word.

Happy New Year
