Personally I think it's a great little town, but not everyone would agree. One of the most important things you have to bear in mind about this part of Spain is that you will need to drive. Public transport is virtually non existent and most properties are quite a distance from facilities. And even if you are within a km or so from the town you won't feel like walking when it's 40 degrees!

Albox has good shopping and a 24/7 A&E. The surrounding scenery is stunning although the town itself isn't the prettiest. Loads of great tapas bars and a good weekly market . You really need to try it for fit yourselves.

To add to Juliet’s post, if you seek the company of other British migrants, then Albox is definitely the place for you, with a very high ratio of British migrants.

Hi thanks for replying to this I am looking to retire in Albox but I would prefer more Spanish people  in the area so I'll look else where

Kind regards

Lynda. You don't have to go far from Albox to find predominantly Spanish communities. Oria, Chirivel, Velez Rubio and Blanco. Up the hill towards Cobdar and further along the valley to Tijola and beyond. I'm with you in preferring to live in a Spanish community but my husband doesn't drive so we needed to be very close to facilities ( in case I'm not able to drive!). I also speak Spanish which he doesn't so again a compromise was required. What I can say though, is that although we live in an area where there are lots of Brits we socialise in Spanish bars (which abound even in Arboleas, Albox etc)  so our life is still one where we experience Spanish culture on a daily basis. I wish you all the best in finding the place that is right for you.

May I ask why you picked Albox? is it because you wanted to be inland?

As Juliet points out there are numerous more predominantly Spanish communities close to Albox, but also plenty closer to the coast as well if you like the sea.
