We visited Carboneras sea front for a walk and lunch over Christmas and I had to draw on my very limited newly acquired Spanish as no one spoke English at all in both restaurants we tried. It was mainly Spanish locals, we were the only English there but saying that it was out of season and we were only passing through so can't comment on the rest of it sorry. Nice place though and food we had was lovely.

We go there often from Los Gallardos when friends are staying....although a bit too far away from things for us, it is nice to visit. We usually eat in the Italian on the prom area....they speak a little English and the menu is in both languages!!!!!

Hello all!
Self-employed UK legal editor and professional trainer here.
I have rented a flat in lovely Carboneras for three months from 15 August 2020. While there, I will work remotely, but also try to learn Spanish and go for plenty of swims and walks around the wild, desert-like nature around Carboneras. I also want to have a good look around the region to see where might be good to buy a flat or small house a few years down the line. Going to be looking at anything from countryside, to small towns as well as Almeria.
From first impressions, the region sounds perfect to me. The landscape, the heat, the dryness. Lived in Australia for 5 years and loved the heat but want to be in Europe.
It would be nice, during this extended visit, to find some ENGLISH OR GERMAN speaking locals (I am also fluent in German).
Could go for a ramble, a kayak, a swim or a cycle, explore the region - or just a good, old-fashioned drink :)
Looking forward to meeting you!
Agnete
