some useful context: this is an experiment in communication, to see if, and how, important community hubs like hairdressing/barbershops might be useful in helping get out crucially important messages about the unfolding climate catastrophe...to see if they could act something like focus groups that are used universally for communication planning, from adverts for beer to political manifestos. Four areas in Ireland that are predicted to be heavily impacted as the climate changes become more intense will be chosen, barbers/hairdressers in each area--who volunteer to participate--will learn ways to respond in conversations that include climate change, such as talking about how climate change is likely to upend life in those areas, and actions that could be undertaken to prevent the worst effects. They will then be asked to report back on what 'worked', or not, just like any focus group would. The point is that--across Ireland as a whole--the cost of managing the catastrophic impacts of climate change will be in the many billions of euros range, and those huge costs can be vastly reduced if the population better understands the issues, and how to deal with them -- now rather then too late. In this context spending 63k now, to save 63 billion later, is a wise investment. The training will mostly involve educating the participants as to the reality of the climate crisis, as to causes, history, predicted impacts, and things that can be done to minimise the impact -- it is already much too late to prevent disruption. And yes, those issues include farting cows because as silly as it sounds, it is a significant part of the problem--something like 15% of greenhouse gases come from cow farts (and belches, they do a lot of both), that can rather easily be reduced. Gov is not instructing people what to say, but looking for ways to get this critically important information out there. There is literally nothing more important.
