Do all banks in Spain charge for just day to day banking?  If not, any suggestions for good helpful banks

most banks here charge unless you have payments going in every month like a pension or shares in the bank and a savings account that's Cajamar.  You also have to use a current account card so many times a year to avoid a charge.

I bank with Unicaja, I do not transfer money into my account each month, but I keep enough to cover payment of rent, electricity and water.  I do have maintenance charges taken from my account on a regular basis.  A relative of mine lives and works in Spain, he also banks with Unicaja and as his salary goes into his account each month, he pays very little in way of charges.

I bank with Sabadell and have done since 2014; I have their expansión account which requires a total of 700€ deposited each month; that gives completely fee-free banking.  I have not paid one céntimo in maintenance, card or other fees since 2014

Cajamar's online account, called Wefferent, has absolutely no charges. You can open one by going into any branch of the Cajamar.

Change it the online Wefferent account and you'll pay nothing. I used to get the €15 charge when I had the regular account, but they always refunded it to me when I asked.

The online account is so much better.

Do this include cashpoint withdawals.  Also what documents are needed to open an account?

Yes, it includes ATM withdrawals. In fact, you never go into the bank at all once your account is open. I assume you will need your padron and NIE, but best to go into a Cajamar and enquire.

That sounds great.  Thank you.   We are coming out to rent mid august whilst we have a good look around before buying, all being well.
