Afternoon All,

I have been looking at purchasing a villa locally, I came out in June looking around Albox & Cantoria, I'm back out in 2 weeks and have one property I like that's in Oria, what I'd like to know is what's the weather like out of the summer season, ie: Oct to new year time, as I'd like to be out there for Christmas and New year. In Cantoria it averages 14 to 18 Degrees I'm told duing the day when sun's out, and drops to single figures at night. when I look at weather day by day, oria seems to be 4 to 5 Deg cooler. If it's 16 in Cantoria where it's an elevation of 450mtrs on a sunny winters day what's it like in Oria where it's 1000mtrs elevation. Would I be outside in shorts and t shirt at Christmas time? On a sunny day or would I be dressed like here in the UK in winter. Hopefully someone who lives there would be able to give me the heads up on what the weather is like in the autumn/winter months during the day and if its sunny enough or constantly overcast etc.

Many thanks.

Oct, Nov Dec, January are normally warm in the day, evenings vary from chilly to cold.  As with most of spain you would need some form of heating for the evenings.  It does not as cold as the UK but there are some days you may need a cardy or jumper. I have lived in Oria for 10 years had the house for 15 and I would not live anywhere else.  The summer weather is not as hot as coast, which is a very good thing.  It is not the weather you need to look at but facilities like our 24 hour medical centre and our own ambulance. Please look at the bigger picture and not just the temperature.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I was looking close to the Albox area, and noticed it was 450 mts above sea level and 1000 in Oria, hence why I was wondering about the temperatures during the cooler months of the the year during the day. I'm aware of the facilities in Oria as I looked round in June this year, but thanks for pointing that out. Also the house in question in Oria doesn't have a pool, do you think getting the permission to have an above ground one installed will be easy enough, or should I buy one that already has a pool? I wouldnt want to find after buying it that the town hall won't allow one.

Many thanks.

You should be OK with an above ground pool as a couple of my friends already have these.  If the house is in the village itself you may be able to get a ground pool.

Hi

Thanks for the info, you've put me at ease a little more.

The house isn't in the village, well I don't think it is, as it's with two others in amongst olive groves. I'd prefer an inground pool tbh. The house opposite it has an inground pool, but the agents said I'd get an above ground one only approved? People do say that some houses have inground pools caus they were on the plans at time of building the house and not retrospective. The house I'm interested in is close to the building where they lay deceased people for family to visit before the funeral, sorry I don't know it's name, its just down from a bar that's painted yellow on the right hand side as your approaching the village. I'm back over on the 12th aug for 6 days so will spend an afternoon in Oria to get a feel for the place and hopefully have a couple of drinks in a bar or two if any are open?

Many thanks for your advice

Neil.

Yes you need to be careful, if not in the village you will not get permission for an inbound pool.  If you need any help or would like to meet up with me and my friend I would be happy to be of assistance.

Hi, thanks for that, I may well take you up on that kind offer, I'm over 12th 13th viewing with agents but free 14 15 or 16, so would be able to pop for a drink and a chat, I'm bringing my partner as she wasn't able to come back in June.  Be good to speak with someone impartial other than agents and sellers. I'll PM you my details if you like.

Thanks

Neil.

Hello,

I am looking to buy a farm house near Oria, the house has few neighbors and a big land. I will use it as a second home and I will spend 2, 3 months on my own as my partner has a full time job and cannot come with me more than 20 days a year,  while I would like to spend more time.
My question is…how safe is this area? As I said it is not in the town, but a farm house 15 mins from Oria. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also is the area quite multicultural or there are only Spanish people living there?

Many thanks

Simona

Although the village and outside areas are mainly Spanish people, there is a large amount of people from various countries.  You would soon learn which bars etc to go in, to meet people you can speak to.  It would be helpful if you had basic Spanish for the shops as there are none that speak English. It is very safe to live in Oria but as with everywhere you need to lock your doors when going out.  If you live in an area of very few people I would consider getting an alarm.  People around here when at home still leave their doors open.
