Hello

This is my first time on this forum, I need help please. We were at our house in Oria in July and for obvious reasons have not been able to return, we have received two water bills from the town hall claiming usage, when we left Oria in July to come home to England as normal we turned off the water at the mains which we do at all times.   We received an email from Oria Town Hall telling us they have taken payment form our bank account, this action is ILLEGAL, even in Spain, no one can take a payment from your bank account without giving advance notice of intention to collect payment.  I have emailed the person in the town hall who appears to communicate well in English, she has ignored me, has anyone else had this issue?

We want to bring my mother to our house in December for a month because on current trends we think it will be safer for her in Oria than here in England, when we were there in July NO ONE had tested positive for Covid, is Oria still covid free?

Thank you all in advance for your help, it is appreciated.

Hi Angelina,

normally you will get billed every quarter and like the UK even if water off there will still be like a standing charge and to set up the account normally you would have given bank details to the town hall or maybe solicitor did on your behalf.  Ae you on a meter at the property?  If not on a meter then they will charge you as they cannot tell whether there is water used or not.  Shouldn't be a huge amount unless you have a pool perhaps.  Marisol at the town hall is usually very helpful.  Here's a number if you haven't got it +34 950122736.  It is also quite common to get water leaks in Spain so if you have a meter at the property maybe a neighbour/friend could check to see if meter is moving?

I agree with the other comment about water leak as i have had one myself this year.  If you do not have anyone to check for you, if i can get to the meter i can check for you.  You can private message me if you want me to go round.  We have not had any residents in the village with the virus and you would be safe here as long as you wear your masks and follow instructions.  We had a visitor from Madrid who came with the virus and was put under house quarentine for two weeks.

I agree with Andy, if you are connected to the mains water supply, even if you don’t use any water, you still have to pay the standing charges.

We normally get our water from a well; however our house is also connected to the mains water supply, and therefore we get regular bills.

Hello Thank you all for replying I do appreciate it, I was unclear and apologise, we have had two bills claiming we have used water which we have not, we do not have any leaks either, could the meter be faulty, I ask this because my brother had a faulty meter here in England.   We have written to the lady who does the water bills and she appears to be ignoring our letters, we know there is a standing charge in Spain and here in England, the Oria water Office sent a statement claiming usage, which is impossible, we sent her a letter which todate she has ignored.

You would be better to email Marisol at the town hall, she normally very good with emails. Ask her to send someone down to check your meter as you are in the uk since ......  Keep your email as short as possible.  Finish your email with...  Please email me back with the results of the meter check.  If she has to reply to you she is more likely to respond..

Hope this helps

This is the email she uses to send out the bills, if you put it for the attention of Marisol Perez am sure it will get to her.
