Has anyone applied for an EU Passport through descendant rights ?  Then used it since 31st December 2020 to apply for residencia ?   My husband has a right to his Polish passport through his dad but has anyone actually applied for residency by this route. I remember some people saying they were going for their Irish ones.    Did they get it and Is it worth it ?

Nobody in Mojacar, Garrucha, Vera, Los Gallardos, Turré got hold of or even applied for an Irish Passport. But, you'll see the same people in the fast moving queues at airports after Covid waving ummmmmmmmm! An Irish Passport.

Nobody in the UK applied for an Irish passport either. But, watch them at Arrivals in airports with ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! An Irish Passport in their hands.

Even before we Irish apply to renew our passports we know there is a six months delay (used to be a few days) because nobody anywhere applied for an Irish Passport.

If you get an Irish Passport like one or two others you'll be the envy of every non Irish Passport holding person in Mojacar, Vera, Los Gallardos and Turré. Well the few that don't have an Irish Passport.

I WISH.   but, my granny was in the womb when her mum n dad left Ireland so she was born in Scotland.  The reason I know that, when I did the family tree ,i found out that  They put on her birth certificate that they got married in June, my granny was born in August !    The family story I had heard years ago , and they all believed it , was , there had been a man in the family who had been sent over from Ireland to buy cattle with £100. He spent the money and didn’t go back.  So,now  I rekon, he was Given the £100 by his dad n told , get to,,,,,, n don’t come back.    🙈.    so, there went my Irish passport chances.   Mathew, are you saying, no one let on they had applied?

Hi

Yes, I got an Irish Passport via my grandfather a couple of years ago, before the rush!

Think in total it cost about £750 but, worth its weight  in gold when it comes to Residency application and effects. Spousal rights etc. Finances etc.

Had to register my birth in the Uk with the Irish then applied for the passport, fairly easy IF you have all the relevant birth and death certificates to hand , which I did, fortunately,  due to one of my uncles still having Grandads Birth Certificate. A VERY old and tatty document!

Only problem now for people like yourself is that there is a very long wait for the Irish passports at the moment.

Hope this helps.

Austin and Trevor.

Since that Referendum result in 2016 the population of Irish people throughout the UK (including Northern Ireland) has grown more abundant than if we were all forced to swallow Viagra. The Unionists domiciled in NI who not only dislike most of RoI actually dislike anything green. But, for some strange reason most of them now have dual citizenship with GB passports and RoI passports. There'll never have been more Irish people marching on the 12th July. They'll be supporting the pope next!!!

Next year in Mojacar there will be more people celebrating St-Patrick's Day (17th March). Suddenly, Harriet from Hull, Sophie from Southampton and Nick from Newcastle will be drinking Guinness and wonder how they ever enjoyed a Pimms. Next Friday is St-George's Day and it could be the last day of such celebration from many in Mojacar, Garrucha, Vera, Turré and Los Gallardos. So, if you are going to the Rose 'n' Crown to celebrate everything English, this could be your last visit before celebrating St-Patrick's Month next year.

. . . . . and the question of why are Brits so furtive of possessing an Irish Passport? The simple answer is they'll be wearing green hats with a buckle instead of Panama hats. Didn't you know, the Panama Hat has that air of authority?

Interesting and i’m glad you got yours but as I said, i’ve got No chance, as my granny was born in Scotland!    My husband is starting the process to obtain his Polish one but I don’t know what healthcare provision he would receive if any. Obviously  that means you can still take up residency under the old conditions of before Jan 21 . Are you then covered under any Eh1c card or similar or did you need private health cover?

If you hold a passport of a country within the EU your ehic card will entitle you to free emergency treatment for the first 90 days of each visit to an EU destination.

I applied for mine last year , October time and got a confirmation of receipt of application along with my dads and grandparents birth and wedding certificates . I was told it could take up to two years because of COVID and the demand for all us wannabes . I will practice using my confirmation name of patrick , sing all the Irish songs I know and keep partaking of the black stuff two at a time because I hate waiting for that .

I live in Ireland and received my citizenship two weeks ago after a 15 month wait but I have lived here over 25 years and my wife and son have Irish passports. I jumped the queue because I had a neighbour with some political clout in the party of the Minister but I know that there are people who have been waiting in excess of two years and I read that the Department of Justice is to write to these people with an update. It cost me in total around €1200, €150 for initial application, €950 fee when approved and then additional fees going back and forward to solicitors to get documents signed, stamped and authenticated. I then obviously have to pay the passport fee when this is possible but I may still have to travel on my UK passport until things go back to normal in the Irish passport office
