Desperate for help.   Has anyone applied for an Animal health certificate from U.K. to Spain ?   Has anyone with a dog which has an EU passport (Romanian )  had to get their dog a rabies booster in U.K. as it was running out and the question is ,I suppose , did the U.K. vet give the booster and did the Spanish vet mark up the passport ?

I have a dog with a Slovenian passport and have been told by my UK vet. That if a UK vet makes an entry the passport is null and void . Emergencies ?? Not sure but would say no. Best to check with a Vet.

Yes, I have been checking everywhere my vet obviously first. I was told by APHA and DEFRA ,the people who are the Law on this , that the U.K. OV (official vet ) can give the booster as one of my dogs rabies is running out in August and I can’t get to Spain till Sept,   and that the Spanish vet can then mark up the passport. I’m going to check with my Spanish vet now too.   My U.K. vet phoned me yesterday to say that the rules have changed again and she isn’t allowed to give the jab at all as she is a single practise OV. she also can’t even download the form to see where the info on the certificate is and what it involves. She did say it’s like a book!    She also said that according to the blogs she is on Vets are giving up as far as the Animal health cert is concerned as they need a whole day to fill it in and no one will pay the cost of that! WHAT on Earth is happening, that’s just ridiculous for a cert that only lasts 4 months.  I wonder why our govt didn’t get a U.K. passport sorted out that would be accepted in the EU.!      I assume obviously there will be vets doing it and just need to find one. I also have to assume the Spanish vet can get the info off the form and mark up the Rommy passport to keep it live as the thought ,and the cost of two certs twice a year would be prohibitive .I was just wondering if anyone had gone through the same palaver but the chances are so slim that anyone’s dogs rabies ran out while in the U.K.

I am sure things will change eventually. Good idea to shop around for the AHC. Prices where we are differ by up to £60-£70.

I honestly don’t care what it costs, as it’s just a one time thing,as long as it can be done and I retain the EU passports, I hope it does get sorted out as there are so many people who will need these certificates it’s just ridiculous , I wonder what Minister was organising that Deal ?

Well with the Rabies jabs for two and two certs it’s, so far £350 ! Only lasts 4 months !       However if it gets us in, I won’t be in this position again thank goodness.   If all vets have been trained to the same EU standards then Why oh Why didn’t they simply keep our passports valid as long as kept up to date , and when they ran out change the front to U.k. Pet Passport.  Common sense is not so common in the Commons 🙈.

My UK vet told me that when you apply for the animal health certificate  blood sample from your dog is sent to a government laboratory and tested for the rabies antibodies as long as your dogs vaccinations are up to date you shouldn't have a problem make enquiries with your local vet the certificates can take quite a while to come through

I’ve been in touch with everyone for Ages, Defra haven’t got a clue. My vet is doing the rabies on 14th July to keep them up to date. You don’t apply for the AHC till ten days before you leave the country so i don’t know how it will work if , as you say, they take a long time to come through !   I asked my U.K. vet how the rabies jab will be recorded, she said on their system. I said, then, can I have the labels of the batch, that they usually put into the EU passport, she said just ask on the day, but, i’m thinking If they put them into the passports but don’t write in the passport , as the passports won’t be shown on leaving U.K. then on reading the AHC, my Spanish vet should be able to stamp the passport and cover with the plastic protector.  Job done. EU passports all up to date and only need to be sure to get jabs done in Spain or France every year ,no more Expensive AHCs

If your on a EU pet passport, why do you need a fit to travel certificate which applies to uk animals travelling to EU. Surely you only need an inspection stamped in your passport as previous. Re blood test this was a requirement prior to finalisation of ftt, and currently is not a requirement

I’m stuck in Scotland,   my dogs ,on Romanian Passports need their Rabies jabs to keep them up to date. A U.K. Official vet can give the jabs but they are Not allowed to write in an EU passport. Hence the Palaver.  I think it’s an absolute ridiculous situation whereby Our U.K. govt could not issue a U.K. pet passport, since Every VET has been trained as per the EU rules for very many years.  So , the Animal Health Cerificate everyone NEEDs to get into the EU will be valid for 4 months!  shocking situation . Luckily, I will only need to do it ONCE as previously explained
