Hi everyone, can anyone recommend where we can hire racing type cycles for a cyclist friend who is coming to holiday with us in April and also recommend any routes from Arboleas which he may enjoy.  I appreciate the cycle will, need to suit his height etc, any idea of cost would help, I believe he is bringing his own lycrawear and helmet etc.  Perhaps a club may be able to advise.  Please message Thelma with any helpful suggestions, Thanks in advance x

Hi,

I've used Rock and Ride which are based on the prom as you are going into Garrucha from Mojacar.

We regularly bike up to Villaricos from Mojacar which is an easy ride and we have done upto San Juan which is further on.

Excellent bike shop in Mojacar as you are coming out of the playa towards Garrucha called Dolcetti? I think.

Hi PaulR,

Many thanks for the info re Mojacar, our friend has never been to this part of Spain before, would he be able to cycle from Mojacar to Arboleas or is there a specific cycle route, I don’t cycle so unsure, many thanks for your help.  Thelma

Hi Thelma,

Sorry I've never been to Arboleas - looking at the map I take it that is somewhere up in the mountains off the M-way. It would be good to get up there and see it.

Depends on how proficient your friend is re: cycling.

If he can see off a few hills then it would be no problem for him to get down and back up to your place.

If he wants a challenge suggest he does the coast road Mojacar to Carboneras (spectacular views from top of route). We've done Mojacar to Sapalmo (on way to Carboneras) c.45mins but's that's our limit as we don't have racing bikes...

There's plenty of resource out there.

Just one more thing - there are lost of cycling parties that come out to Mojacar and surrounding areas for practice. One of the hotels on the front of the Marina de la Torre hosts cycling groups.

Hi Paul

Thank you for your advice and help, our friend is pretty proficient at cycling and has been doing it all his life, he probably would like the challenge Arboleas is a 40 min drive from Mojacar, we are in the Almanzora Valley near to Alfoquia, we are not in the mountains though.

Thanks again you have been very helpful.

Kind regards

Thelma

There is a bike shop in Albox which hires road bikes - not sure of the cost. There is a great ride from Arboleas through Albox and up to Saliente Monastry. Also from Arboleas you can go through Zurgena and up the hill to Lubrin which is quite a challenge. Halfway up the hill to Lubrin is a left hand turn which takes you down to Antas and the coast is  accessible from here. Another route from Arboleas is out to Hotel Overa and follow the road into Huercal Overa and then out to Pulpi.

Hi There is a bike hire in Burganvilles on the road to Garrucha just past Puerto del Rey.

He has a lot of bikes, so I think you will get one there.

😁
