Hello. I'm moving out to Spain at the beginning of 2019 and looking for walking groups.

I am in my late 40s and a keen walker (26mile charity walk 2017 || London to Brighton 62 miles 2018!!) << But seriously, I am not not wanting that sort of mileage as I realise I value my toenails!! I am looking for walking groups that offer 6miles or more in one hit.

I am looking for walking groups to help build my confidence walking in Spain and build on my non-existent Spainsh. It would also be lovely to meet with likeminded people.

I am happy to walk with dog walkers to get my doggie fix (currently not a dog owner myself).

In addition, do you have any tips for walking in Spain? For example, in the UK we stick to footpaths as indicated on maps. Do footpaths exist in Spain? Can you just walk anywhere.? (See, that's why I need a walking group lol)

Thank you in advance for your help

Tracey

Hi

There is a friendly walking group that leaves from The Pool Bar in La Alfoquia every Wednesday at 10am. It is led by Kath. The walks are usually 2 hours with a stop for coffee in the surrounding area. Quite leisurely and informal and chance to meet people from the local area.

You can also register on The Town Hall website which has a list of walks available that are led by Spanish. It is official with car patrol etc. Times vary but usually on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Each walk is graded and tells average time... they cost around €5 per person to cover insurance etc. Water and Oranges are supplied at half way point. The guide stops at various points and explains points of interest/historical  in Spanish; the majority of walkers are Spanish although some English do go but it’s a great way of integration and seeing the local area; I’ve found them very friendly.

Mojacar Walking Group... google. I’m planning to join and looks very good.Graded walks and over a wide area for meeting places which I think will also be imteresting. The walks appear to go from Sept to March but check out the website.

Good luck

Pamela
