Hi thanks for letting me join the forum

My wife and I currently live just outside a small village on the Costa Blanca but are looking to relocate to this area and found some nice Villas that look suitable for our requirements, however we have only visited Mojacar previously on several occasions and liked what we have seen.

I have looked on this forum and seen many comments that state that it's like 'little Britain' which funnily enough was how some people referred to our present location as becoming, but wanted to know if this really was the case or that just more foreigners who are British have been moving into the area recently?

We are coming down for a week in September and have seen properties around Arboleas and the surrounding villages, we want urban but not community and are looking for a mix of Spanish (I can get by on very basic Spanish) and foreigners not just British, so we are looking for some honest opinions of the area please

Thanks you

Matthew

Whenever I get regrets about us buying our apartment in Mojacar Playa the regrets dissipate on hearing of the amount of people buying property in the greater Costa Almeria who have already lived in other Spanish areas. (Our first apartment in Spain was in Torrevieja). But, the Rule No 1 is still that. Rent in the off season for about 5/6 weeks in the area in which you wish to buy and you'll learn much more then than relying on internet information. There's nothing like eyes, ears and feet on the ground for factual information.

Jacton, you're good for my health and I wish you only the best on your search.

Matthew

We live near to Torrevieja and have done for over five years and known the area since 2003 when we purchased our property off plan but hardly ever go into the town

Your advice is good and sound and its what we also always tell people about living in our area, although community living really does have to be experienced for longer that six month to fully understand the implication.

We now know exactly what sort of place we wished to move to but agree it would be much more informative to experience live over a longer period than a week and we will probably look to rent over the early 2021 months before our final decision

Thanks

Arboleas is little Britain and has been for a long time! We lived there 16 years ago and it was then and still very much is now.

Mojacar in general is nicer, bit more variety of people, still quite English though but not all squashed together like in arboleas!

Good luck on your travels!

Trouble is nearer the coast more expensive which is the same everywhere

Little Britain is a bit of a concern but I suppose a bit like a TV you can turn of from socialising with the British if you want

Near where we live there is a very large area that is 60/40 British and we rarely go anywhere near the place

But thanks for the heads up we also like the look of Huercal-Overa

Huercal overall is nice,we've thought about there in the past.

We turn off from the Brits and don't go near those places either!! Of course an option!!

I hope you find your slice of paradise

Jacton, why don't you think of looking at Turre or Los Gallardos? In those places there are decent villas which are not too expensive on the market and there is a good mix of English and Spanish residents in both.  Not only that, but both places are quite near Mojacar and the coast whereas Arboleas is a bit far out (and is somewhat less scenic in my opinion).  Another reasonabley priced area where there are new build urban areas beside genuine Spanish villages is on the stretch of coast near Palomares and Villaricos.

As Jen-Jen says, Huércal Overa area is nice as well and there is a hospital there which is very handy if you are getting.on in years.  From there, you can get to the attractive beach of St. Juan de Terreros easily enough too.

Turre is still pretty British, so is los gallardos now!

We live 40km away from albox going towards baza, its a lot greener and prettier, lots of trees and water, and its cheap!!

And best of all,it's mostly Spanish!!

Its worth looking around....

To be honest Huercal-Overa and Turre are our first choice for looking but at present not much about in our range

But further inland toward Baza is not an option as its much too far from the coast for our liking

We are looking 30-40 mins inland maximum but again many thanks for all your helpful and honest opinions which are much appreciated

Hello and sorry for my poor English. Rent for a period of time in the area and you will see for yourself that you have not made a mistake when buying your home in Arboleas. You must choose to be a neighbor in Arboleas or a foreigner in other towns.
